Cardiff Draconians 5-4 Caerau Ely: Hat-trick for Bowen, red card for Hurton and nine goals
Cardiff Draconians came out on top against Caerau Ely in a nine-goal thriller at Llydstep Park to claim their first home win in the Ardal South West.
Liam Williams, Josh Payne, Thomas McLean and Jack Kane had all scored in the first half to give the Dracs a commanding lead at the break after what was seemingly a consolation goal from Daniel Bowen in between McLean and Kane’s effort.
Shaun McCarthy then put Phil Booker’s side 5-1 up but the North Cardiff side lost their composure and Bowen scored a brace to earn his hat-trick before a red card was shown to goalkeeper Dan Hurton.
Daniel Reymond scored a spot-kick for the Young Guns but were unable to overturn the four-goal deficit they had faced.
Liam Williams opened the scoring with a penalty kick struck into the bottom left corner.
Richard Noyes delivered a corner kick with Joshua Payne’s header into the bottom corner.
Thomas Mclean moment later fired home the third goal for the home side with a close-range effort.
Soon after the third Cardiff Draconians goal, Daniel Bowen went through the opposition backline as he slotted home his first goal of the game.
Jack Kane grabbed the fourth goal with a close-range header from a corner just before the break.
After the interval, Shaun Mccarthy scored the fifth goal of the game, following a Matthew Hibbs header.
Daniel Bowen hit another counter as he fired his left-footed effort into the top corner.
To complete his Hat trick, Daniel Bowen scored from close range to grab the third goal for the away side.
Daniel Hurton was sent off after fouling Bowen, Daniel Raymond stepped up and scored the fourth goal.
After controlling the first half of the game and having a four-goal lead, following an early goal in the second half.
Caerau Ely responded and was the controlling team in the second half of the game. Daniel Bowden was the man of the match grabbing three goals in the match along with causing danger against Phil Booker’s side.
Thomas Mclean had the first opportunity of the game as he hit a cross into the box as it was cleared away for a corner.
Moments Later Cardiff Draconian won themselves a corner as Kane was brought down just inside the box by Howell.
Liam Williams the skipper stepped up and slotted it past Elliot Matthews into the bottom corner to give the home side the lead.
There was a late injury scare for Caerau Ely as Matthews was holding his knee following a collision with one of his players.
This was worrying due to Caerau Ely having no substitute keeper on the bench along with losing their captain.
After a delivery from Noyes from a corner, Payne rose highest as he fired his effort home and grabbed Draconains a second goal.
Straight after the goal, Cardiff Draconian then added a third when Hibbs slotted a ball into the path of Mclean who was at close range of the goal as he tapped it home to make it three for the hosts.
Moments later Daniel Bowen ran through the Draconian defense as he slotted home a strike past Hurton to grab a goal back for Caerau Ely.
Alfie Kennedy was booked for fouling a Dracs forward while on a counterattack with the free-kick leading to Payne heading over.
Liam Williams had his effort saved when his dipping shot was saved by Elliot Matthews from just outside the box.
Thomas Mclean struck a corner into the box where the ball ended into the path of Jack Kane who headed home from close range past Matthews to grab a fourth goal.
After the half-time interval, a long ball flicked on by Matthew Hibbs in the direction of Shaun Mccarthy who slotted the ball past Elliot Matthews to grab the fifth goal for Phil Booker’s side.
After a Cardiff Draconains free-kick which was collected by Matthews, A counterattack prevailed with Daniel Bowen slotted his left-footed strike into the top corner.
Kiaran Janik – Bates was booked after a stud-up challenge on a Cardiff Draconians player with appeals from the home side.
Richard Noyes hit a soft pass to Shaun Mccarthy who fired a tame effort just past the post from outside the box.
Aaron Dimitri was booked soon after for fouling Jack Kane from just outside the box as the ball was cleared away for a corner.
Callum Nippers was close to adding a sixth when he cut inside and fired a curling right shot which was saved brilliantly by Matthews.
After the missed opportunity by Nippers to extend the lead, Daniel Bowen slotted home from close to grab himself a hat-trick.
Recently substituted Morelli was close to scoring with his effort saved from open play and a corner kick.
Daniel Bowen was one on one with the keeper as it looked Bowen took out Hurton, Daniel Hurton took out Daniel Bowen resulting in a penalty and red card for the goalkeeper.
Jake Gammond came on off the bench to step in goal with the defender playing the last 15 minutes of the match.
Daniel Raymond stepped up and slotted the ball home past Gammond, the last ten minutes of the match were in favor of the away side.
The fixture was getting a cagey affair with Liam Williams and Joseph Morelli receiving yellow cards following arguments between both teams from a foul in the buildup.
The last chance of the game was from Bowen but he had his soft header saved by Gammond.
