Barry Town United Ladies 7-2 The New Saints Women: Olden nets hat-trick in first win for Linnets

Seventeen-year-old Mackenzie Olden grabbed a hat-trick as Barry Town United claimed a 7-2 win over The New Saints in the Adran Premier at Jenner Park Stadium.

Megan Bowen opened the scoring early on before Lauren Harris double the lead.

Georgia Griffiths pulled a goal back for TNS before half time.

Chelsea Cochrane made it three early in the second half and Mackenzie Olden made it 4-1 to The Linnets.

Faye Marshall scored to pull one back for Saints.

Barry sealed the victory in the final 10 minutes as Manon Pearce made it five, and then Olden with two late goals to complete her hat trick.

Barry move to fourth in the Adran Premier table, one of four teams on three points after two games.

TNS are seventh, with goal difference putting them above bottom side Port Talbot.


TNS looked to play out from the back and found themselves under pressure as Barry pressed high.

Barry took the lead after just eight minutes as Megan Bowen headed in from a corner towards the far post.

TNS were trying to play the ball into Francesca Scott, and found her behind the Barry defence but she fouled Pan Pelders as she went past.

Barry doubled their lead with a free kick halfway into TNS’ half. Lauren Harris sent a looping ball over TNS keeper Sarah Martin.

Taite Trivett tried to loop one over Martin but this time the goalkeeper pulled off a fine save to tip it over the bar.

TNS pulled one back after 39 minutes. Winning a free kick in a good position, the ball was sent into the box and Barry keeper Chelsea Herbert looked to have the ball. She lost the ball and Georgia Griffiths was on hand to score.

Pelders came close came close to extending Barry’s lead, but headed just wide from a Harris free-kick.

Chelsea Cochrane gave the hosts a two-goal margin as she hit a stunning shot into the corner from just side the box.

Nine minutes later, a good ball found MacKenzie Olden in the box and she rolled the ball into the net.

Faye Marshall pulled one back for TNS as her attempt from wide beat Herbert.

TNS had a good chance to reduce the deficit when Megan Lane’s ball found Scott in space. Scott’s attempt failed to hit the target.

Barry were passing the ball really well and found Manon Pearce on the edge of the box. Pearce hit a low shot that went in the bottom corner of the goal.

With 88 minutes played, Grace O’Reilly sent a defence splitting pass from the right to Olden. Olden calmly went round Martin to tap in.

Barry weren’t done there, as Harris sent a free kick right into the six-yard box which Olden poked home for her third.
