Penybont 0-0 Caernarfon Town: Ash Morris saves three penalties in shootout win

Penybont are into the last eight of the JD Welsh Cup after a penalty shootout win over Caernarfon Town.

After a goalless ninety minutes, Penybont keeper Ashley Morris was the hero pulling off three penalty saves, denying Bradley, Ojrzynski, and Cartwright.

Lewis Harling and Darren Thomas were both given red cards in the first half for a tussle.


The game’s first chance fell to Darren Thomas who shot from the edge of the area was blocked. Thomas had ben set up by Noah Edwards after some good skill allowed him to pass to Thomas.

Billy Borge sent a cross to the far post that was met and headed at goal. The header lacked real power and was saved by Jakub Ojrzynski.

Cai Jones went close when his close-range effort went just past Ashley Morris’ left hand post. This was followed up by Darren Thomas hit a shot on the turn but his effort lacked power and was saved by Morris.

Nathan Wood tried a long-range effort that went high and over the bar.

Penybont started to take control and were passing the ball around well. They found James Waite in space he fired a shot at goal with flashed just over the bar.

Nathan Wood forced Ojrzynski to tip over his curling ball into the box to stop it going in the top corner.

Just as the halftime break approached Lewis Harling and Darren Thomas both trying to get the ball were pulling at each other. Soon the pair were face to face and had hold of each other at the neck. The two players were separated and the ref give both a straight red card.

Emerging from the restart, Kane Owen sent in an early corner that Cofi partially cleared, the ball then fell to Daniel Jefferies who hit a shot over the bar.

Penybont kept the pressure up as James Waite played a one-two to set himself up shooting chance. shooting low his effort was saved.

Caernarfon sat deeper as the game wore on and Penybont keep trying to get the goal. Mael Davies hitting a long-range effort over the bar.

Nathan Wood played in Keane Watts with a fine pass but Watts put his shot just wide., Mael Davies ducked down to head the ball forward for Nathan Wood but Wood put his another effort wide.

The match went to penalties and Kane Owen stepped up for the home side. Owen saw his kick saved giving Caernarfon the advantage. Caernarfon captain Dion Donohue scored to give Cofi the lead.

Sam Snaith scored for Penybont and then Ashley Morris saved from Sion Bradley. Nathan Wood sent the keeper the wrong way and Morris then saved again this time from Iwan Cartwright. Mael Davies coolly put his into the bottom corner to give Penybont a 3-1 lead. Then Caernarfon keeper Jakub Ojrzynski put the ball on the spot. Morris saved fro his opposite number to send Penybont into the next round.
