Livingston snap up Liverpool’s young Welsh defender

Liverpool have allowed Wales Under-19 captain Morgan Boyes to leave Anfield on a permanent basis, joining Livingston.

He leaves the Reds after 13 years spent on Merseyside, though he made just two senior appearances for them, both in cup competitions.

It is believed that he was the subject of interest from a number of teams in the English system but it is the Lions who have come out on top.

The 20-year-old has joined the Scottish Premiership side on an 18-month deal, joining a select list of Welsh players who ply their trade in the top flight of Scotland.

After making the move up north, he is contracted at the Macaroni Arena until the summer of 2023 but it could be extended.

Their manager David Martindale said: “He is a young player with a massive amount of development & potential still to come and I believe we will be very good for one another.

“I spoke to various members of staff at Liverpool and Fleetwood where Morgan was on loan and everyone spoke very highly of him and his potential. Morgan will come in and join up with the players very soon and I’m looking forward to working with the player and seeing him up close in training.

Taking to social media, he penned a message to thank everyone at Liverpool, as well as looking to the future with his new club.

“I would like to thank every member of staff involved with the club past and present for helping me along the journey of being a young kid with a dream of becoming a professional footballer to making my professional debut for the club.

“A moment that will never be forgotten for the rest of my life by me or my friends and family. The club and players that I can call friends for life have helped me become the person and player I am today and for that, I am more thankful.

He added: “I wish everyone the best for their future where ever that leads them. Now to turn full focus on joining up with Livingston, can’t wait to get started.”
