Taffs Well miss the chance to go top : Taffs Well 0-0 Swansea University

A goalless draw at Rhiw’r Ddar as spectators were left disappointed with both sides taking a point each.

The university side started the game with chances as Rhys Williams had a headed effort go over the bar from close range in the opening minute of the game.

Taffs Well dominated after that opportunity as the home side won a free-kick as David Lyon was fouled. Allen took the free-kick from 30 yards out as the first chance for the Wellmen went over the bar.

Allen was at it again as he played a sweet through ball to Allen who went round a few defenders as he had his effort go over the bar.

If Taff’s well were going to grab a goal it would be with the winger to be involved as the winger played a short pass to Maertins who had a one-on-one effort saved by Edwards.

Hooper delivered a swinging delivery to the back post as Riccardo Mackenzie could only manage to clip onto the ball as he headered it wide.

Swansea won a free kick following a foul from Shephard who fouled Huddart from 25 yards out as Wyn Thomas struck a powerful shot around the wall as King made a great stop to deny the centre-back.

Lyon was at it again as the winger had a left-footed effort go just past the post from David Lyon as that was the last chance of the half.

The opening stages of the second half had an early yellow card dished out to Jan Maertins for an off-the-ball incident.

Chances were limited in the game as the first real chance of the second half was to Taffs Well as Jamie Owen had an effort from 20 yards out saved by Edwards.

The best chance of the game was to the home side as Maertins had a 5-yard strike go inches past the post.

Wyn Thomas received a surprise yellow card from the referee for what can only be assumed to be an off-the-ball incident.

The battle between the team with the most goals and the team with the most goals conceded was definitely disappointing.

Neither side could get the game going as each set-piece went either over the bar, over everyone’s heads, or a chance that didn’t challenge any of the keepers.

Craig Sampson’s side missed out on the chance to go top of the league with a win as Swansea stay in 15th place.
