As-it-happened: Aberystwyth Town 2-1 Flint Town United

Aberystwyth came out victorious in the Friday night football against Flint Town United, after a dramatic end to the second half, which saw a penalty decide the game at Park Avenue.

Flint Town had more of the ball in the first half, however neither side could create any real chances in the first 45 minutes of the game.

The deadlock was broken in the 65th minute. Jack Thorn got on the end of a ball put into the air, and placed a shot past Harry Allen in the Flint goal, to put the Seasiders 1-0 up.

Flint started to open up more as they chased the game, with Aber having chances to double their lead straight after. They started finding space down the right side, with Flint struggling to stop crosses coming into their area.

Flint woud on to find a deserved equaliser at Park Avenue. It was the substitute Ben Hughes, who came on just seconds prior to the goal, fired a low shot past Leigh Jenkins in the Aber net, to bring the game level with just ten minutes left to play.

Just minutes after Flint’s equaliser, Aber Town had a brilliant chance to go back in front. Harry Arnison went down under a challenge after an attempted clearance, to give his side a penalty with just five minutes left to play.

Niall Flint dispatched from the spot, sending Allen the wrong way, in what would be the decider to give Aberystwyth all three points in the Cymru Premier clash.

United kept on the pressure in the closing stages, with a lot of direct play, with goalkeepr Harry Allen also up at the end, but they couldn’t find a way past a resolute Aber back line, who defended well to see out a vital three points.

The home side go level on points with Flint, with both sides now knocking on the door of the top six in the Cymru Premier League.
