As-it-happened: Cardiff City 5-0 Pontypridd United

Cardiff City entertain fellow Adran Premier side Pontypridd United in the third round of the FAW Women’s Cup.

With both sides in good form in the league, it promises to be an exciting affair down in Leckwith on Sunday afternoon.

Cardiff have been head and shoulders above everyone in Welsh football so far this season. In the league, they have won six out of six and have only conceded two goals. They are also the current holders of the FAW Cup and started their campaign well with a 5-0 victory over Adran South side Cascade YC. Eliza Collie scored two that day, along with a goal each for Danielle Green, Meg Saunders and Seren Watkins.

The side looking to break the Bluebirds’ grip on the trophy is Pontypridd United. Having started with three defeats from their first four matches, the Dragons have had a good upturn in form lately, winning their last three in all competitions, and also keeping three clean sheets in those games. Their last match in this competition was an emphatic 5-0 win over Barry Town United. Alison Witts grabbed a hat trick that game, with a goal each for Liv Francis and Ellie Gunney.

These two met on the opening day of the Adran Prem season. Cardiff emerged as 2-0 victors that day with goals from Danielle Broadhurst and Phoebie Poole. Ponty performed well in the second half of that game, and they will be hoping that they can produce an upset on Sunday.
