Former Swansea City midfielder agrees to leave managerial post

Cymru South club Trefelin BGC have parted company with their first-team manager Andrew Mumford.

The Port Talbot-based club are on an eight-match winless run and have picked up just two points from a possible 24. Mumford’s last match in charge was a 3-0 defeat against Taffs Well, who had not won in four games.

At the time of Mumford’s departure, Trefelin are 10th in the league, four points above the relegation zone, but with two more games played than 14th-placed Ammanford.

In a statement published on their Twitter account on Thursday afternoon, it read: “Trefelin BGC and first-team manager Andrew Mumford and coach Mark Jenkins have decided to part company by mutual agreement.

“Everyone at the club would like to thank Andrew and mark for their hard work and we wish them all the best for the future.”

Former Swansea City midfielder Mumford succeeded Richie Ryan at the end of last season, as the club opted to go in a different direction. Ryan ended up taking the job at league rivals Cambrian & Clydach Vale.

The post has not been advertised to external candidates and Michael Waters will now take the reins until the end of the season. He will be assisted by Paul Wiseman, as well as first-team players Joe Clarke, and Andrew Davies.

Davies has mainly played for the Reserves team this season but played against Airbus in the Welsh Cup and in the Nathaniel MG Cup, as well as one league outing against Swansea University.

Clarke meanwhile has not played since the end of January. The 31-year-old has played 17 times across all competitions with ten goals, including nine in the league.

Waters’ tenure will begin with a home match at Ynys Park on Saturday, March 4, where they will host Llantwit Major, who are seventh.
