Cambrian & Clydach Vale have appointed Richie Ryan as their new first-team manager, replacing former Cardiff City defender Scott Young.

The Sky Blues parted ways with Young, and after a ten-day search have landed on the all-time record goal scorer in the now-defunct Welsh Football League.

Ryan had been in charge of Cambrian’s Cymru South rivals Trefelin BGC up until last summer. He oversaw a near five-year reign, winning two promotions, with a third-tier title in an unbeaten campaign in 2019/20.

The job at Cambrian is only the second in the management career of the former Aberdare Town forward. Cambrian had secured a Tier One Licence last season and had been expected to challenge for promotion, but are 15 points behind league leaders Barry Town United.

Upon his appointment, Ryan said: “It’s an absolute honour and privilege to be appointed manager of such a well run and respected club.

“The opportunity to work with this talented group of players, both senior and academy products, was simply too good to turn down.”

Cambrian are in the top half of the division, but struggled for form with just two wins in ten games. Young had been absent from several matches leading up to his departure.

His tenure will begin with a boxing day clash against local rivals Ynyshir Albion at The Oval, with kick-off at 13.00.
