Newport County make big decision on Cymru Premier trio

Lewys Twamley of Pontypridd United in action. Penybont v Pontypridd United in the JD Cymru Premier at Bryntirion Park on the 27th September 2022.

Newport County have released Pontypridd United loan trio Joe Woodiwiss, Jack Karadogan, and Lewys Twamley.

All three players spent part of the 2022/23 season at the USW Sport Park and now the Dragons could be presented with an opportunity to re-sign them. The Exiles have included them three along with Lewis Collins, Evan Ovendale, Robbie Wilmott, and Matty Dolan on those released on their retained list.

Twamley and Woodiwiss spent the first part of the campaign with Pontypridd before their loans expired. Karadogan joined in January and played a part in helping Andrew Stokes’ side stay up.

Twamley’s release comes as a shock as in November, Graham Coughlan admitted that he would have been given game time had he been available to him. The three-time Wales Under-19 international Twamley made 24 appearances in total and got four goals and four assists for Pontypridd. During his time at Rodney Parade, he made four senior appearances for the Exiles.

Woodiwiss, a defender by trade, played 2 times in total for Pontypridd and registered one clean sheet along with an assist. The Cardiff-born centre-back made 10 appearances for Newport with most coming in the EFL Trophy.

Former Connah’s Quay star Priestley Farquharson has been offered a new deal. Farquharson has been with Newport since January 2021 after joining for an undisclosed fee.

Kiban Rai, who came through the academy of Brecon Corries and Cambrian & Clydach Vale is in contract this season. Rai – who is based in Brecon – has enjoyed a breakthrough couple of months and has made four appearances for the senior team since the appointment of former Bristol Rovers manager Coughlan.
