Midfielder in post Swansea City transfer as he finds new club after summer exit

Recently released Swansea City midfielder Dan Williams has found a new home.

Williams was one of 13 players released by the Swans this summer. The 22-year-old along with Tivonge Rushesha was a professional released by the EFL Championship club, along with Corey Hurford, who was a first-team player at Briton Ferry before joining the Swans. 

Williams has found a new permanent home following his exit from the Swansea.com stadium by joining Cymru Premier champions TNS on a permanent basis. He spent the 2022/23 season on loan at Park Hall and made The central midfielder made 29 appearances in all competitions for TNS, registering two goals and one assist.

“I am delighted to return to Park Hall on a permanent basis,” said Williams to the official TNS club website.

“Since joining the club last September, Craig and the rest of the squad have made me feel right at home, so I am thrilled to be back here. 

“It was great to play a key part in last season’s success, but we have big ambitions to do even better this season starting with the UEFA Champions League fixtures in a couple of weeks’ time. The club has success within its DNA so I can’t wait for the season ahead.”

He will get to taste UEFA Champions League football for the first time in his career, with TNS set to face Swedish champions BK Hacken in the first qualifying round.

First-team manager Craig Harrison added: “Dan played a crucial role within the team last season, so it’s great to have signed him on a permanent deal ahead of the upcoming season.

“In addition to his obvious on-field qualities in midfield, he brings the right mentality and attitude to the group, so there was no doubt we wanted to sign him when the opportunity presented itself. I am looking forward to seeing him develop even further in the years ahead.”

He is the third signing of the summer following the signings of Rory Holden and Reece Thompson. Thompson joined from Shrewsbury Town’s academy, whilst Holden made the move from Port Vale.

Thompson, 18, didn’t make an appearance for Shrewsbury’s first-team but will provide competition for Connor Roberts. He most recently played in TNS’ Champions League warm-up matches in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

Right-winger Holden meanwhile made the move from the third tier of English football. The 25-year-old made 16 appearances for the Valiants last season, including 11 outings in League One. He has mainly played in League Two, getting nine assists and six goals for Walsall.
