Getting to a football match without a car can sometimes be a challenge, particularly when grounds are tucked away on the outskirts of towns.

But for supporters looking to combine a train journey with a Cymru North fixture, some clubs are considerably easier to reach than others.

We have ranked all 16 clubs on the list by the approximate distance between their home ground and the nearest mainline railway station, and there is a clear divide between the most accessible grounds and those requiring a much longer onward journey.

Caersws lead the way while Newtown and Rhyl are also within a mile

The most straightforward trip belongs to Caersws, whose Recreation Ground is approximately 0.4 miles from Caersws railway station.

That is followed by Newtown, with Latham Park around 0.6 miles from Newtown station, while Rhyl 1879’s Belle Vue is approximately 0.7 miles from Rhyl station.

Porthmadog are next, with Y Traeth around 0.9 miles from Porthmadog station.

Brickfield Rangers are also listed at approximately 0.9 miles, although their nearest mainline station is Wrexham Central.

That means five of the 16 clubs are within roughly a mile of a station, potentially making them particularly convenient options for supporters travelling by rail.

Bangor City and Holyhead Hotspur are also within 1.2 miles

Bangor City and Holyhead Hotspur are next on the list, with both clubs’ grounds approximately 1.2 miles from their nearest station.

Nantporth is around 1.2 miles from Bangor station, while Holyhead Hotspur’s New Oval is the same approximate distance from Holyhead station.

Buckley Town follow at 1.4 miles, with Globe Way Stadium located relatively close to Buckley station.

Penrhyncoch are at 1.9 miles from Bow Street station, putting them just outside the two-mile mark.

The distances are approximate rather than walking-route measurements, so the actual journey on foot could be longer depending on the route taken.

The average distance is pulled up by several much more remote grounds

Across all 16 clubs, the average distance from a ground to its nearest mainline station is around 6.8 miles. However, that figure does not tell the whole story.

The middle of the table is much more compact, with Guilsfield at 3.4 miles, Gresford Athletic at 3.2 miles and Mold Alexandra at four miles.

At the other end, the distances increase dramatically.

Denbigh Town’s Central Park is approximately 11.1 miles from Rhyl station, while Ruthin Town’s Memorial Playing Fields are around 14.7 miles from Wrexham General.

Bala Town are listed at 27.3 miles from Ruabon, with Llanuwchllyn the furthest on the list at approximately 35.6 miles from Ruabon.

That means the difference between the closest and furthest grounds is more than 35 miles.

For rail-travelling supporters, the figures highlight just how different a Cymru North away day can be. At Caersws, the station-to-ground distance is less than half a mile, while Llanuwchllyn’s approximate figure is nearly 90 times greater.

The average of 6.8 miles is therefore heavily affected by the handful of grounds with particularly large distances to the nearest mainline station.
