Pontypridd United v Aberystwyth Town live updates as Cymru South rivals meet in big clash

Pontypridd United host Aberystwyth Town this afternoon in a big Cymru South clash with both sides looking to strengthen their position near the top of the table.

The two teams go into the game level on 16 points from their opening seven matches, having dropped just five points so far this season.

With third-placed Pontypridd taking on second-placed Aberystwyth, there is plenty at stake at USW Sport Park.

Kick-off is at 2.30 pm.

How the two sides have started the season

Both teams have enjoyed strong starts, with just one defeat apiece across their opening seven league matches.

Ponty dropped points have come against Afan Lido and Pure Swansea, while Aberystwyth have lost to Treowen Stars and drawn with Pure Swansea.

Little separates the sides in the table, although Aberystwyth have the stronger defensive record.

Aber have conceded just seven goals so far, compared with 12 for the Dragons and have also scored more.

That could make for an intriguing contest at USW Sport Park, with both teams knowing a victory would provide a significant boost.

Aberystwyth’s leading scorer so far is Aaron Williams, who has found the net five times. Recent head-to-head record

The recent meetings between the clubs have been closely contested, with Aberystwyth edging the latest encounter.

The most recent meeting came on December 26, 2025, when Aberystwyth recorded a 1-0 victory away at Pontypridd.

Before that, the sides played out a goalless draw at Aberystwyth on August 16, 2025.

The previous meetings were similarly tight, with a 1-1 draw at Pontypridd in April 2023 followed by a 3-3 draw in Aberystwyth the previous month.

Aberystwyth also won 2-1 at home in November 2022.

However, Pontypridd’s last victory over Aberystwyth came earlier that year, when they claimed a 2-1 win on August 27, 2022.

Owain Jones and Ben Ahmun scored the goals for Pontypridd on that occasion.
