Newtown have confirmed the double signing of Dominic Smith and Jason Oswell.
Smith joins from English outfit Alfreton Town, meanwhile, Oswell returns for a second spell after leaving AFC Telford United. They are the first bits of summer transfer business, with the window set to open officially open on Wednesday, June 14, with player registrations expiring on June 1.
The Robins announced Smith on Tuesday evening, and he has penned a two-year contract at Latham Park. The 27-year-old made 42 appearances for Alfreton last year, helping them to the National League North play-offs. He kept 14 clean sheets and captained them on one occasion too.
Smith also has Football League experience under his belt. He made 31 appearances for Shrewsbury Town in a four-year spell. To date, he has made 117 appearances and scored six goals. He is also a Wales Under-21 international and played alongside Harry Wilson and his now-Robins teammate Theo Wharton.
Former Wrexham striker Oswell has also made a return to Mid Wales after leaving six years ago. He scored 50 goals in three seasons at Newtown, and earned him a move to Stockport County, and later Wrexham.
He has been at AFC Telford United, who have just been relegated from the National League North, and his departure from the Bucks was announced earlier this week.
‘We’re absolutely delighted to welcome Jase back,” said manager Chris Hughes to Newtown’s official club website.
“All of the supporters will remember what Jason did in his three seasons with us and we’re excited to seeing him reunite with Aaron Williams to form what we hope will be a prolific partnership.
“Jason will also allow us to be a little bit more flexible with both our tactical setup and style of play. Welcome back Jase.”
