Connah’s Quay Nomads dismantled the Archers at the Cyncoed Campus 3-0 in a statement win which sees the Nomads almost certain to finish in the second position, above Bala Town. Cardiff Met were completely outplayed in every department of the game, as the home side were reminded of the points difference between themselves and the North Walian outfit.
It was a highly unfortunate start for the home side when their star striker Lewis Rees went down injured, which at the moment looked like a hamstring pull. However, a couple of minutes later, when Rees left the ground in crutches, it seemed to be a long absence going forward for the Wales C forward.
The Nomads were on the front foot right from the off, with Aron Williams creating some dangerous chances from the right, creating loads of trouble for CJ Craven who was on left-back duties for the day. After some breathtaking inter-play connection between Aron Williams, Jordan Davies and Jack Kenny, the visitors finally found the back of the net in half-hour mark. It all started with a defence-breaking pass to Declan Poole, whose shot was tackled by Kyle McCarthy. However, the loose-ball was crossed into the box with Josh Williams lurking in the six-yard area, as he headed in from point-blank range to take a lead at the home of the Archers.
The Nomads kept pushing, especially down the right with Aron Williams and Luca Hogan. At the stroke of half-time, Aron Williams cut in and crossed it into the box with his left-foot to find the head of Jordan Davies, who tapped in another header for the Nomads who went inti the changing room leading 2-0.
The second half was much of the same, except Cardiff Met tried harder to push forward, but to no avail. Lewis Rees’ absence was felt throughout the game, as Eliot Evans’ runs often found no takers with Dixon Kabongo and CJ Craven busy defending. Perhaps the biggest miss for the Archers was Emlyn Lewis, who not only is their best defender, but a leader by example with some excellent long-ball passed at his disposal.
The game became scratchy as the second half went by, and the Nomads were fine with Met keeping the ball for longer spells, knowing their defence was in good shape. In the 87th minute, a Nomads counter attack from the right wing yet again, saw veteran striker Michael Wilde tap in the easiest of goals he would ever score, to push the scoreline to a strong 3-0.
It was a comprehensive victory for the Connah’s Quay Nomads, who asserted their dominance over the Archers in their own backyard. Final score: Cardiff Met 0-3 Connah’s Quay Nomads.
