The New Saints took a significant step towards securing their eighteenth JD Cymru Premier title over the weekend with another crucial victory.

Goals from Danny Redmond and summer signing Ben Wilson sealed a win over Caernarfon Town at Park Hall. The visitors had briefly levelled through former TNS striker Brad Young, but the league leaders proved too strong as they claimed their sixth consecutive victory.

The result initially opened up a 15-point gap at the top of the table, placing the pressure firmly on second-placed Connah’s Quay Nomads ahead of their clash with Barry Town United.

However, the Nomads were unable to respond. Ollie Hulbert scored the only goal of the game at Jenner Park, condemning Connah’s Quay to their first defeat in 17 matches.

With just six league fixtures remaining, The New Saints now sit 15 points clear at the summit and are edging ever closer to retaining the JD Cymru Premier crown.

When can The New Saints be crowned Cymru Premier champions?

TNS will be record eighteen-time champions of the Cymru Premier if they are victorious against current runners-up Connah’s Quay Nomads in Flintshire next Tuesday, March 3. The match is being broadcast by Sgorio, allowing Welsh domestic football fans to tune in and watch what could be a big moment in the domestic campaign.

If they do win against the Nomads, they won’t lift the trophy, with that usually reserved for their final home game, against the same opponent on April 3.

The current gap between the two sides is currently fifteen points, and TNS could stretch this to eighteen with just five games remaining, winning their thirteenth title in fifteen years, and their fifth in a row.

What’s been the contributing factor to The New Saints’ success?

The Saints’ frontline has been mesmerising this season, scoring 70 goals, nineteen more than anyone else. A key man for them has been Jordan Williams, who has netted 23 goals in 25 league games this season. Previous to the 2025/26 season, Williams had not reached over 15 goals for TNS, yet this year his newly found central role has proved he is a goalscoring machine.

Another key part of Craig Harrison’s success this season has been the ever-present Ryan Brobbel. Brobbel has eleven goals and six assists in 25 league games, and has proved over the year why he will go down as one of the best players ever to play in the Cymru Premier.

It is also important to note that before the game next Tuesday, Connah’s Quay Nomads have defeated TNS at home already this season, running out 3-1 victors on New Year’s Eve courtesy of goals from Rhys Hughes, Callum West and Max Woodcock. Hughes has had another brilliant campaign, after winning Player of the Year in his first season in the Welsh top division.

New Saints can win first silverware of season – Nathaniel MG Cup

But, before now and next Tuesday, TNS have the Nathaniel MG Cup final to take care of, where they face Barry Town United at the DragonBet Stadium in Bridgend. The Saints are looking to win the competition for a twelfth time, while Barry are looking to defeat Craig Harrison’s men for the first time since September 2019.

TNS have undoubtedly been the standout team once again this season, being free-flowing in attack and imperious in defence, but have also shown signs of weakness earlier in the season. The Saints were defeated twice in three weeks by Cardiff Met back in November, including being knocked out of the Welsh Cup in the process.

However, everyone associated with the Oswestry-based club will be watching next Tuesday, in the hope of TNS claiming yet another Cymru Premier title, and in turn reaching the qualification stages for the UEFA Champions League once again.
