FAW Amateur Trophy: Dolgellau Athletic hit eight as Rhydyfelin Non Pol stun Pencoed

The FAW Amateur Trophy delivered a weekend packed with goals, comebacks, penalty drama and an upset across Wales.

Dolgellau Athletic were the biggest winners in the North, putting eight past Radnor Valley, while Clwb Cymric edged a remarkable nine-goal thriller against Cardiff Corinthians.

There was a big result for seventh-tier Rhydyfelin Non Pol, who knocked out fourth-tier Pencoed Athletic

Friday’s action saw Llanidloes Town beat Llanilar 2-1 in the North Wales section, while Rogerstone eventually overcame Llantwit Fardre in the South.

Rogerstone and South Wales Premier League outfit Llantwit Fardre drew 1-1 after 90 minutes before Rogerstone held their nerve to win 4-1 on penalties.

Saturday brought plenty more drama in the North.

Dolgellau Athletic produced the most emphatic result of the round in the FAW Amateur Trophy as they thrashed Radnor Valley 8-0.

Ioan Roberts scored a hat-trick, while Robert Kimberley added two goals. Dion James, Robert Evans and Osian Morris were also on the scoresheet as Dolgellau cruised through.

Kerry were another side to impress, beating Cemaes Bay 7-1, while Conwy Borough edged Llysfaen 5-4 in a nine-goal thriller.

Last season’s Cymru North top scorer Jamie Breese was at the heart of Kerry’s emphatic 7-1 victory, finding the net four times in the Amateur Trophy tie.

Captain Barry Bellis also got in on the act with a brace as Kerry cruised into the next round of the FAW Amateur Trophy.

Knighton Town beat Menai Bridge Tigers 5-0 and Prestatyn Town recorded the same scoreline against CPD Rhos Aelwyd.

There was penalty drama elsewhere, with Llanrhaeadr beating Saltney Town 5-3 from the spot after a 1-1 draw.

FC Queens Park also progressed on penalties, defeating Cefn Albion 4-3 after their match finished 2-2.

Talysarn Celts and Mynydd Isa could not be separated after a 4-4 draw, but Talysarn eventually won the shoot-out 5-4.

One of the big North Wales ties of the weekend in the Amateur Trophy saw Trearddur Bay come through a six-goal contest against Penycae.

Penycae twice fought back from behind, with Benjamin Dawson cancelling out Callum Parry’s fourth-minute opener before Parry restored Bay’s lead just a minute later.

Luca Beck levelled seven minutes into the second half, but Parry completed his hat-trick in the 61st minute before Liam Morris sealed the 4-2 win with 10 minutes remaining. The treble took Parry’s season tally to 20 goals.

Clwb Cymric win nine-goal thriller as Splott stage remarkable comeback

One of the most entertaining games of the weekend in the Amateur Trophy came in South Wales, where Clwb Cymric defeated Cardiff Corinthians 5-4.

Cymric, who play a league below the Corries, went ahead before Cardiff Corinthians levelled.

The scores continued to swing back and forth in a remarkable contest.

It went 1-0, 1-1, 2-1, 2-2 before Cymric moved 3-2 ahead and then 4-2 in front.

The Corries pulled one back to make it 4-3, only for Cymric to restore their two-goal advantage at 5-3.

Cardiff Corinthians scored again to make it 5-4, but Cymric held on to secure a memorable victory.

Owain McKee was the star for the winners with a hat-trick, while Thierry Otu and Curtis Scotto both scored twice for Cardiff Corinthians.

There was also late drama involving Splott and AFC Llwydcoed.

The sides drew 3-3 after 90 minutes, with Splott battling back from 3-1 down to force the game into a penalty shoot-out.

Seventh-tier Rhydyfelin Non Pol stun Pencoed after Welsh Cup run

One of the biggest upsets came at Pencoed Athletic, where seventh-tier Rhydyfelin Non Pol came from two goals down to win 3-2.

Pencoed, who play in the fourth tier, looked to be in control before Non Pol launched their comeback.

Dylan Reid and substitute Ieuan Gowen got Rhydyfelin back on level terms before Reid struck again seven minutes from time to complete a remarkable turnaround.

The result continues what is becoming an impressive cup campaign for Non Pol.

They enjoyed a good run in the Welsh Cup and are now making their mark in the FAW Amateur Trophy, too.

Elsewhere in South Wales, Giants Grave beat Cefn Cribwr 4-0, Mumbles Rangers defeated Penclawdd 4-0, and Newport Corinthians beat Croesyceiliog 3-0.

Cwmbran Celtic won 4-1 at Llanishen, while Goytre also recorded a 4-1 victory away at St Josephs.

Penlan beat Tongwynlais 5-1, Pontyclun defeated Morriston Town 3-0, and Pontarddulais Town edged Ely Rangers 2-1. C K Swiss Valley beat Bettws 3-2, and Margam YC defeated Sully Sports 3-1.

Cardiff Cosmopolitan were another side to cause an upset in the Amateur Trophy, with the South Wales Premier League Championship outfit knocking out Premier Division opposition Afan United 3-1 on the road.

Callum Bridge proved the difference for the visitors, scoring twice before Tom Phillips produced a spectacular late strike to put the result beyond doubt and book Cosmopolitan’s place in the next round.

Previous winners Port Talbot Town beat Brecon Corries 3-0.

Ton Pentre and Pentwynmawr Athletic drew 1-1 before Ton Pentre won 3-1 on penalties.
