Connah’s Quay Nomads defender shares frustrating injury update after lasting just 12 minutes on return

Connah’s Quay Nomads defender Flynn has shared a frustrating injury update after being forced off just 12 minutes into his return from a spell on the sidelines.

The 25-year-old had only recently returned to action after missing three weeks with a calf injury, having previously spent seven weeks out with a hamstring problem.

However, his comeback was cut short during the Nomads’ Cymru Premier clash with Llandudno after he was on the receiving end of a tackle that left his ankle badly swollen.

Flynn has since undergone an X-ray and is awaiting further assessment from a bone specialist, with the defender admitting that the early signs are not encouraging

Shane Flynn opens up on frustrating injury setback

Taking to TikTok, Flynn explained the difficult run of injuries he has experienced this season and his disappointment at suffering another setback so soon after returning to action.

He said: “A little career update for you guys. I had a hamstring injury, out for seven weeks. Came back, had a calf injury, and was out for three weeks.

“I came back and played today, first game back from my second injury of the season, and I lasted 12 minutes.

“My ankle is like a f***ing balloon. Both feet are off the ground and it was the follow through. It is what it is I guess, what can you say?

“I’ve had an x-ray. I’m waiting for the bone specialist to get on to me because it’s not looking ideal. I’m not really sure how long I am going to be injured for, even though I’ve already missed 10 weeks.”

The defender’s latest update leaves his immediate availability uncertain, with further medical assessment expected to provide a clearer indication of the severity of the injury and how long he could be out.

Connah’s Quay Nomads defender has endured stop-start season

Flynn has made just six appearances for Connah’s Quay Nomads, including a European outing against Ballkani in the UEFA Conference League.

He also featured during a run of matches in September against Airbus UK, Cardiff Met and Barry Town, before missing subsequent fixtures against Penybont, Briton Ferry and Porthmadog.

His latest appearance had offered an opportunity to get back into action after his recent calf injury, but the early substitution means he could now face another period of rehabilitation.

The Nomads will be hoping the results of his assessment provide some clarity as they look to manage their squad through the Cymru Premier campaign.

Flynn’s professional career began at Leicester City

Irish-born Flynn began his footballing journey at St Joseph’s Boys Club before being recruited by former Premier League champions Leicester City.

He spent six years in the early stages of his career with the Foxes, regularly featuring in Premier League 2 at under-23 level, as well as the Under-18 Premier League and FA Youth Cup.

His experience in Leicester’s youth setup provided a foundation for his career in senior football, with his move to Connah’s Quay Nomads offering another opportunity to establish himself.

However, after already spending 10 weeks on the sidelines this season, Flynn now faces an anxious wait to discover the full extent of his latest injury.

Until he receives further medical advice, the defender and the Nomads will be left waiting to find out when he could return to action.
