Chris O’ Sullivan has left Haverfordwest County AFC, the Welsh Football League One club announced this evening.
O’Sullivan jointly managed the club’s first team alongside Sean Cresser, guiding the club to a fourth placed finish after being relegated from the Welsh Premier League in 2015/16.
He joined the Bluebirds in May 2016 after ex-manager Wayne Jones left for Aberystwyth Town. He oversaw the club enter the title race for much of the season before Barry Town, Penybont and Goytre battled for promotion in April.
O’ Sullivan is leaving the club due to work commitments as he embarks on a new business venture, whilst Sean Cresser will continue his role as manager.
In a statement, Haverfordwest County chairman David Hughes said:
“I was initially shocked to hear of Chris’s decision but having listened to his explanation, I have no doubt that he has made the correct one. He has been involved for many years as a talented and extremely competitive player and over the last twelve months he and Sean Cresser have been instrumental in implementing the club’s vision of involving a large percentage of local talent into their Welsh League Division 1 squad.
“Undoubtedly, it was the local knowledge and respect that Chris had gained over the years that made a great impact when their first squad was assembled. The transition was carried out with great success – a 4th place league finish and strong cup runs in all competitions is testimony to the great work that was done by both Chris and Sean.”
“There is no doubt that Chris O’Sullivan’s presence at the club will be greatly missed and, because of his wholehearted approach and his knowledge of the game, he will be a hard act to follow. Of course, everyone at the club would like to wish Chris every success in his exciting new business venture and also would like to thank him sincerely for his great service over a decade or so.”
