Caernarfon Town have opened their season with six points out of a possible nine, making a positive start as they look to build on the progress of recent seasons.
With a Trefelin side sitting at the bottom of the Cymru Premier table up next, the Cofis will be keen to extend that productive start and put further points on the board.
The Canaries have already faced some difficult opposition in the opening weeks of the campaign, defeating both Connah’s Quay and Colwyn Bay in between suffering defeat to Penybont at The Oval.
With six points from those three fixtures, Richard Davies’ side can be pleased with their start, although they will feel there was an opportunity to take something from all three games. With the season still in its early stages, the Cofi’s will be looking to turn that promising start into a consistent run of form.
“The start of the season for me is all about getting points on the board,” he said.
You know, we’ve played some tough teams, so it’s come out with six points. Being greedy, I would have liked seven, nine in a perfect world,” manager Richard Davies conceded.
The Caernarfon boss will now be hoping his side can take advantage of their next fixture, although he knows they cannot afford to underestimate a Trefelin team who will be desperate to get their first points of the season.
“We are expecting a challenge” – Davies ahead of Trefelin Cymru Premier clash
Trefelin currently sit bottom of the table, with zero points and zero goals scored. They opened their campaign with a 2-0 defeat to Colwyn Bay, before suffering a heavy loss to Llandudno. Last weekend, things went from bad to worse as they were hit for six by Connah’s Quay.
Despite their difficult start to the campaign, the gaffer is not expecting Trefelin to simply roll over against a Caernarfon side who qualified for Europe last season. Davies knows that their league position does not necessarily tell the full story, and expects the hosts to provide a stern test.
“I don’t think the start they’ve had is a reflection of them as a team. It’s going to be really tough, especially away from home. We are expecting a challenge,” said the Caernarfon boss.

Caernarfon Town boss outlines transfer plan after Darren Thomas exit
The transfer window shuts on the 1st of September, and following Darren Thomas’ departure after more than 15 years of service with the club, Caernarfon manager Richard Davies has outlined his plans for both replacing the club legend and moving forward without him.
Davies admitted he had tried to convince Thomas to remain at The Oval until at least Christmas, believing the midfielder would still have an important role to play in the squad. However, he understands Thomas’ decision to leave in search of regular football.
“I tried to convince him to stay even till Christmas. I was convinced that he would get minutes on the pitch, but I can totally see it from Darren’s side that he just wants to play every week and enjoy his football.”
Thomas’ departure brings the curtain down on a remarkable spell with Caernarfon, and Davies reflected on one of his proudest moments with the midfielder, as well as the impact he has had on the club.
“One of my proudest moments as a manager is to see Darren Thomas lift the Welsh Cup; It meant so much to me because I know how much he’s given to the club. So now I wish Daz nothing but the best, and we’ll definitely be keeping in touch.”
With Thomas now gone, Davies would like to add another body to his squad before the transfer window closes, although the Caernarfon boss is in no rush to make a signing for the sake of it.
“With Daz leaving, I’d like to bring another body in, so we can replenish. We’ll actively be looking next week to try and bring someone in. But if the window was to close tomorrow, I’m really happy with what we’ve got.”

“It didn’t take long, I can tell you that.”
Davies signed a new contract at Caernarfon Town this week, keeping him at the helm until 2029. The new deal is a further sign of the club’s faith in the 41-year-old, with Davies keen to continue building on what has been an exciting few seasons for the Cofis.
“It didn’t take long, I can tell you that. It means a lot to me. I still want to strive to win stuff and be as competitive as we can. Both of mine and the club’s ambitions aligned, so it was a no-brainer for me then.”
The 41-year-old, affectionately known as Fish, will be hoping his side can match his and the club hierarchy’s ambition this season, starting with a win on the Cofis’ first trip to Ynys Park on Friday night.
