Druids recruit experienced Football League utility-man Ashton

Welsh Premier League side Cefn Druids have completed the signing of experienced utility-man Neil Ashton.

The 32 year-old who can play as both a full-back and a central-midfielder was last playing for Vanarama National League side Southport under former Premier League boss Andy Preece.

It is familiar surroundings for Ashton, who spent half a decade in Wrexham, playing for Football League side Wrexham, making 204 appearance and scoring nine goals.

During his time at Wrexham he won the FA Trophy back in the 2012/2013 season and was a runner up back in 2014/2015. He was also a losing finalist in the All-Welsh play-off final between Wrexham and Newport County.

The Liverpuldian has spent his footballing career up North, playing for sides like Tranmere Rovers, Shrewsbury Town, Macclesfield Town, Barrow and now the Cefn Druids.

The Chairman of Cefn Druids, John Hughes said when speaking to the Cefn Druids website hat the player was in demand and that they are pleased to bring a player of his experience into the club.

“We are thrilled that Neil has decided to join Druids this season, we know he has been in high demand, with other clubs chasing him –  he will be a great addition, bringing both knowledge and experience to The Rock – I wish him well with the season ahead!’

The Druids have contained a core of their squad of last season, with Ashley Ruane and Ellis Healing committing to the club. The Wrexham club have also signed Lewis Buckley, who was released by Llandudno earlier this summer.
