Barry Town United have completed the signing of former Cardiff City development player Macauley Southam.
The versatile midfield player who was born in 1996 becomes apart of Gavin Chesterfield’s side, three games into the Welsh Premier League season and is a last minute signing for the team.
Southam, who was formely the captain of the Cardiff City’s under 18’s squad will hope to have a big impact on the current Barry Town United squad, with the side currently sitting in 10th place in the Welsh Premier League.
He signed a professional contract with the Bluebirds in 2014 and went onto score some spectacular goals whilst in the youth setup there which included being nominated for various goal of the month awards – the nominations came in games against Ipswich Town, Burnley and Charlton Athletic respectively.
Speaking to the official Barry Town United website following the signing, manager Gavin Chesterfield was delighted with the capture of Southam.
“Naturally, I’m delighted to be working with Macauley, he has a good pedigree and his profile fits what we look for in a player.
“He can play in a variety of positions and his versatility will bring a lot to us. He knows many of our lads already, so I have no doubt he will fit seamlessly into our squad,” said the Barry Town United manager.
Southam will be expected to join up with the squad and may even play apart in their next Welsh Premier League fixture after the international break when they host Newtown at Jenner Park.
