Barry Town United manager Gavin Chesterfield confirmed his delight following Barry Town United’s 3-1 win over Aberystwyth Town in what was a crisp afternoon at Jenner Park.
Goals from deadline day signing Jonathan Hood, Jordan Cotterill and a Kayne McLaggon penalty handed his side a comfortable win over 10th placed Aberyswyth Town.
And Chesterfield appeared to be delighted with the way his side applied themselves throughout to give them a much-needed three points, after losing their last three games of phase one.
He said: “It’s great. Aberyswyth are a good side, they have strengthened well during the window and I knew coming up against them today would be a tough game.
Delighted with our performance and quality of football. It was interesting really because I thought we started really well in the first 20 minutes, but Aberyswyth shaded it then for the rest of the first-half.
In the second-half we got the balance right and showed a lot of attacking intent and I thought we could have scored a few more.”
He also commended both Jonathan Hood and James Demetriou following their debuts for the club and they both impressed and looked sharp throughout, especially Hood who bagged his first goal for the Vale of Glamorgan outfit.
“I think its difficult for lads coming late during the window. I think they’ve got to adjust to the new playing styles, but they have settled in really well, we have got a great group here and they have welcomed them with open arms.
“Jonathan added something different, he is a character and I think he’s got really good quality and I believe he belongs at this level. The same with James really (James Demetriou) – I think he has been a bit short on game time and you could see that when he come on because he could have got himself on the scoresheet.
“He will add a different dimension and he will be a right handful when he is fit, absolutely delighted with the guys today, and that goes for the rest of the squad as well.”
Mike Lewis conceded late on, but in-spite of that, it was another superb performance from Barry’s number one and believes he instills confidence into their back-line, which could help in phase two of the campaign.
“Mike sets high standards for himself and he has done brilliantly since he has come in here, I know he will be disappointed to concede a goal of that nature but there is nothing he can do about that.
Mike showed he is a very good keeper today – he’s solid and he breeds confidence into the lads in front of him.”
