Goytre United responded twice to Taffs Well taking the lead as they denied the Wellmen’s new management team their first win since taking over.
Taffs Well who are under the guidance of Adrian Needs, Lee Bridgeman, and Nana Baah, had a fast intensity throughout the match but suffered blows in their search for their first win.
The Wellmen’s fast start saw them have the first opportunity of the game as Leon Jacka’s shot went just over the bar, following good work from Marcus Jones.
Goytre United’s Luke Martin was then forced into a fine save just a few moments later with Kyle Williams forcing the keeper to tip it over the bar.
In the 22nd minute, Well ook the lead through Marcus Jones, who was impressive throughout the first half. Sam Johnson’s deflected cross found the path of Jones who stabbed the ball into the net to give the home side the first goal.
Jones almost doubled his tally moments later as his shot went just wide of the target after being found in space.
Goytre United’s closest chance of equalising in the first half fell to Jamal Roberts who aimed for Rameer Outlaw with his cross but very nearly scored himself.
The Well wasn’t letting up though and both Sam Johnson and Marcus Jones went close, with Johnson heading just wide and Jones unleashing a powerful shot just over the bar.
Taffs Well went into the break with a one-goal lead. Goytre United started the game well and tried to find Jamal Roberts a number of times, but it was the home side that had the one-goal advantage.
It should have been 2-0 not long after the break, but for a goal-line clearance from Ryan Krostromin who denied Jacka after he lifted the ball over Martin with the chip.
Walters and Roberts were linking up well for Goytre United and Roberts forced a save from Gould but he saved well, denying Roberts’ shot which was destined for the corner.
The Well very nearly let Goytre United back in by a mistake, Tom Burridge spent too much time on the ball allowing Roberts to take the ball off of him. Mohsin tried to clear but it could only fall to Adam Jenkins, who spurned the opportunity to go level, as he put his shot over the bar.
The away side was pushing for that equaliser and Outlaw’s slight touch from a Goytre United free-kick was directed onto the crossbar. They were given a corner from the chance and substitute Dong blazed his shot wide in front of a sea of bodies.
Goytre did have their goal though with just over twenty minutes to go, a free-kick was whipped in from just over halfway and Rhodri Cole was there to stab the ball home.
Their lead was short lived though, Taffs well earnt a penalty after a foul in the box from a corner. Sam Johnson stepped forward and hit the ball into the centre of the goal, despite the fingertips of Martin.
Dong went close in equalising just three minutes later, putting his shot just the wrong side of the post.
Mohsin fouled Outlaw just outside the box with a late tackle. Walters forced Gould into making a good acrobatic save, to keep the lead.
Once again though, Well were undone by a set piece as the corner was whipped in, with Dale Griffiths scoring from close range.
