Rhyl FC have confirmed the resignations of Manager Matt Jones and Director of Football Mark Connolly.
Both Connolly and Jones took to twitter earlier this month to announce their departures following rumours of changes at the Cymru Alliance club, with rumours circulating that Denbigh boss Eddie Maurice-Jones is favourite to take the helm after resigning from the club earlier this week.
A club statement reads
“As supporters are aware Mark Connolly, Director of Football and Matthew Jones, First Team Manager have decided to resign from Rhyl Football Club and their resignations have been accepted.
The Club wish Mark and Matthew every success for the future.
The focus for Rhyl Football Club is now firmly on reviewing the Football Club Management structure and to ensure that this structure enables the club to progress.
In this regard the Club will be issuing an announcement within the next 7 days.”
Matt Jones had been at Rhyl since May 2016 where he was first team coach. He was appointed manager in January 2018, replacing Connolly.
Connolly initally took the role of interim manager in October 2017, after Niall McGuinness’ resignation following a mediocre start to their Huws Gray season, following relegation from the JD Welsh Premier League. He later took on the role of Director of Football as Rhyl shook up their backroom staff for the second half of the season.
But, the club won’t be short of options in the second tier, with Maurice-Jones having left Denbigh Town following the club’s second placed finish in the Huws Gray Alliance this season, the manager most certainly won’t be short of suitors.
In a statement on the club website, Denbigh cited his success as a reason for his departure.
“This success has, inevitably, attracted the attention of a number of clubs and Eddie has decided the time is right for him to leave.”
