Stephen Green admitted he was proud of his players, despite their first loss of the UEFA Regions Cup to Amateurs FYR Macedonia.
Wales succumbed to their first loss of the campaign courtesy of goals from Antonio Lukarov and Toni Mirchevski, and despite Christopher Quick’s late goal, they couldn’t find an elusive equaliser.
In the aftermath of the game, Green expressed his delight at his players’ desire to get back into the game, as well as giving credit to the Macedonians as they picked up their first points of the competition.
He said “I am very proud of the players tonight, we have always given it our all, every single time we have played. Even the last Regions Cup, but credit where its due, Macedonia were the better team on the night.
“We never stopped running or working and we could have got an equaliser. Would it have been fair, well I would have taken a point anyway but we lost to the better team on the night to be quite honest.”
Quick scored another goal from the substitutes bench and now Green is faced with a dilemma heading into their final game, on Sunday.
“We have got that scenario where we have four good strikers, but obviously we can’t pick all four of them. But at least we know one or two of them will always give us a goal, and I have faith in Quicky that he always scores, but I have this predicament whether I start him or I pick him from the bench.
“Now that’s a big call that I will have to make for the final game against Greece.”
Green was also quick to praise skipper and goalkeeper Stephen Price, who put in another sensational display against Amateurs FYR Macedonia, pulling off some superb first-rate saves in the process.
“He was absolutely quality, some of the saves he made were unbelievable. It is nice to have him in the squad, he put on that shirt tonight and played a real Captain’s role, and I am really proud of that.”
