Bala Town have signed 2016/2017 Welsh Premier League ‘Young Player of the Season’ from Vanarama National League side AFC Fylde.
The former Swansea City youngster returns to the JD Welsh Premier League after a season away from the club. Jones turned down a new deal with the club to return to the Welsh top flight with the Seasiders.
The Aberaeron-born midfielder made 23 appearances last season for Fylde, scoring five and assisting four times.
The Lakesiders already added former Football League footballer Andy Mangan to their side this summer.
“I just felt it was the right time for me to come here and play in the Welsh Premier again for probably the best team in the league,” said Jones to BalaTownFC.co.uk on his return to the league.
“I’ve been speaking to Colin for a while over the summer, things at Fylde didn’t materialise and this is the best option I could take.”
“I like to create, score goals, be involved and be a player that creates and excites fans.”
“I don’t think it’d be stupid to say we can’t challenge for the league, Bala has been there or thereabouts for the last few years, I can’t see why we can’t go a step further and challenge The New Saints.”
The 24-year-old is a former Swansea City professional, having joined the club from the age of eight, before penning a permanent contract with the Swans at the age of 18. Jones represented their U21 and under-23 side, earning a number of Wales U21 caps.
Jones moved to Bangor City in the summer of 2016 and made an immediate impact in his sole season with the Citizens.
He scored 14 goals and provided 10 assists to his teammates over the course of the season. His performances for Bangor earnt him the Welsh Premier League Young Player of the Year, as well as a place in the WPL Team of the Year.
