Monthly gongs for Bala’s Jones and Nomads’ Morrison

Bala Town’s Henry Jones and Connah’s Quay boss Andy Morrison have won the first monthly awards of the season in the Welsh Premier League.

The Nomads remained unbeaten throughout the whole of the opening first month of the season. Andy Morrison’s men finished top of the table, come the end of the month but have since slipped to second, behind The New Saints.

The Welsh Cup winners won recorded their highest league victory under Andy Morrison on the opening day, beating new boys Llanelli Town 7-0. They then recorded victory over reigning champions The New Saints, before topping off the month with a home victory over Aberystwyth Town.

The former Manchester City defender said: I’m delighted that we’ve been given the award that we deserve for our results in August.

For me personally, the award should be a ‘Club of the Month’ – the results over a successful month are the byproduct of so many people, not just the manager, doing their job well.

Jones returned to the JD Welsh Premier League this summer, having spent the previous season with National League side AFC Fylde.

The former Swansea City winger performed a rabonna, to tee up Steven Tames who scored on his Welsh Premier League debut. Jones was then the match winner as he scored a superb long-distance shot in stoppage time, to give Bala victory over the Cefn Druids.

It’s a double award for the Lakesiders, after Steven Tames was awarded Goal of the Month by former Celtic and Wales striker John Hartson.
