Afan Lido appoint club stalwart Paul Evans as new Director of Football

Former Afan Lido stalwart Paul Evans has returned to the Division One club as Director of Football.

He left his role as manager of Lido’s main rivals Port Talbot Town last season. Evans has recently been managing Baglan Dragons in the South Wales Alliance League. He leaves Baglan 10th, in a 16 team league in the Premier Division.

Lido tweeted: “We are delighted to announce former Captain and Manager Paul Evans has returned to the club as Director of Football.

He will work closely with the management of all our teams at both senior & junior level”

Evans is a club stalwart, having played over 800 games for the Port Talbot club.

He was involved in their league Cup-winning squads in 1993 and 1994, as well as playing in the UEFA Cup, as a player.

As a manager, he led them to a narrow defeat in the Welsh Cup final in 2007, this despite being a Tier Two team at the time.

Lido went under a management restructure in the summer, after manager Wayne Davies left his role, after guiding them to a top-five finish.

Mark Robinson was appointed as his successor, with Andrew Mumford and Mark Dickeson, who worked alongside Andy Hill at Llanelli Town last season, assisting Robinson.

Lido are currently seventh in Division One. Their next game is on Saturday when they travel to former Welsh Premier League champions Cwmbran Town on Saturday.
