Barry Town United have moved to sign youngster Marcus Day

Marcus Day has signed for Barry Town United for the 2021/22 Cymru Premier season, signing from Bristol Manor Farm.

The 20-year-old played against the Linnets for his former club in a pre-season friendly and has impressed the Linnets bosses enough to earn a deal. He featured in Barry’s latest friendly, a 4-1 victory over Undy Athletic.

Day was an academy player of Bristol City, featuring for their Under-18 and Under-23 sides, having played from the club from the age of 13, but was released in 2019.

During his time as a contracted player with the Robins, he spent time on loan at Paulton Rovers in the English non-league scene.

Commenting on his move, he said: “I’m delighted. It’s a good club, there’s a really good atmosphere around the place and I just can’t wait to get going.”

“Marcus comes with a good pedigree and is an exciting wide man who really impressed in our friendly against Bristol Manor Farm,” said manager Gavin Chesterfield on his latest addition.

“In that regard, I would like to thank Bristol Manor Farm for the class they have shown in dealing with this transfer and wish them the very best for the season ahead.

“Marcus is a young player with a lot of promise. He is a tricky winger who will bring much to our style of play. He’s integrated well into the team over the past week and we are excited to see him develop further.”

The Cymru Premier club were in the market for a winger after the departures of David Cotterill and Curtis Jemmett-Hutson.

Cotterill has joined league rivals Newtown meanwhile Jemmett-Hutson has moved to Redditch United.

He becomes the second player to join Barry this summer after they signed Aron Davies from Merthyr Town.
