Connah’s Quay Nomads 0-3 The New Saints: Brobbel brace bags Saints the Cup

The New Saints claimed a League and Cup double after comfortably beating last years Cup holders Connah’s Quay in the Welsh Cup final.

Ryan Brobbel scored in both halves as well as an early strike from Greg Draper to secure TNS’ their seventh Welsh Cup.

Nomads substitute Andy Owens was shown two yellow cards in quick succession to make for a damp day for the Deeside club.

The Nomads had a number of chances but an assertive New Saints strolled to victory as they showed their clinical edge.

The New Saints struck early on through Golden Boot winner Greg Draper with a poachers finish after Adrian Cieslewicz cross forced John Danby to palm into the path of the TNS frontman.

Connah’s Quay had a penalty appeal as Insall was challenged by Blaine Hudson.

Ryan Brobbel’s long-distance free-kick caught out John Danby for the Saints’ second goal.

Michael Bakare almost pulled one back for the Nomads as his free-kick forced Paul Harrison to tip over the bar.

An acrobatic effort from Jamie Insall was the last action of the half as the Nomads tried desperately to claw a goal back.

After Bakare was substituted for Wignall, the Nomads had more of an attacking verve. Insall’s glancing header went just wide of the goal.

John Disney fired a deflected effort just past Harrison’s goal as the Nomads enjoyed the start to the second half.

Nomads keeper Danby was forced into action as he denied Brobbel a second after he curled an effort at goal following Jamie Mullan’s lay off.

Brobbel put an end to any Nomads fightback as he repeated his first-half feat of catching Danby out with a long-range free kick as the ball evaded everyone.

Having been booked for a cynical foul on Mullan, Owens was booked moments later for simulation as David Morgan showed the substitute his second yellow card.
