Port Talbot Town relegated to the third tier after failing licence appeal

Port Talbot Town have been relegated from Division One of the Welsh Football League after failing their Tier 2 Licence appeal.

The Football Association of Wales revealed today that the club would not receive the licence.

The former Welsh Premier League club saw their application rejected over a fortnight ago and the Appeals Body have upheld the decision to not award Port Talbot the licence.

Only three years ago, Port Talbot Town were playing Welsh Premier League football. They were relegated from the top flight then for not having Tier One licence.

Division Two champions STM Sports have received the licence on their appeal and can now prepare for life in the FAW Championship. STM Sports won the title by six points, scoring 108 goals. It completes a remarkable journey through the Welsh pyramid system, having started the decade as a seventh tier team.

They will join Swansea University and Caerau Ely, who were awarded their licences on the first instance.

Goytre were also awarded the licence on appeal but with Taffs Well finishing ahead of them, the Wellmen now look to retain their Tier Two status.

The Steelmen will now have to prepare for life in the Welsh Football League Division Two. They will be playing in the same Division as Town rivals Trefelin who won promotion to Division Two after finishing second.
