Connah’s Quay Nomads squad trimmed after players released
Connah’s Quay Nomads have just thirteen senior players after releasing NINE players.
The Nomads who ended up empty handed in all competitions, despite reaching the final of the Irn-Bru Cup and the Welsh Cup, have seen a number of players moved on.
Despite a record points tally since their return to the Welsh Premier League, the Nomads have had to see players leave.
LeaderLive revealed that Andy Owens, Jake Phillips, John Danby, Jon Rushton, Dominic McHugh, Jonny Spittle, Michael Parker, Rob Hughes and Ryan Wignall would all be leaving Deeside Stadium.
First-team goalkeeper John Danby is one of the key names on the retained list. Danby leaves the Nomads having joined form Bradford Park Avenue in 2015. He played 175 times for the Nomads, winning the Welsh Cup in 2018.
Rob Hughes, who made a total of 25 appearances in the league this season for the Nomads has also left the club.
Forward Owens is moved on after just 18 months at the club. The Scouse forward scored 9 goals in 27 appearances for the Nomads this season. He was sent off in the JD Welsh Cup final last month, despite only coming on as a substitute.

Fellow January 2018 signing Jonny Spittle also left the club having joined from Aberystwyth Town. Spittle made 16 appearances in total for the Nomads.
Summer signing Michael Parker aleft the club, having joined from Prestatyn Town
Phillips who spent the first-part of the season on loan at Bangor City, earned a call-up to the Wales C squad in March, but has also been moved on.
McHugh never made a senior appearance for the Nomads.
The departures leave Andy Morrison with just thirteen senior players to choose from. Jacob Barratt and Tom Weir look set to be promoted from the Under-19s squad.
In an interview with LeaderLive, Nomads manager Morrison committed his future to the club and commented on the playing budget for next season: ”If you don’t win the league then it’s tough to keep a competitive budget going forward. I’ve been hugely appreciative of the input and financial backing I’ve had.
“It’s always good to challenge yourself and I’m certainly looking forward to doing just that.
“After competing right to the very end in four competitions this season I want to do it again, but that will be dependant on keeping everyone fit and healthy.”
Connah’s Quay players will return to pre-season training on June 1st as they prepare for their Round One Qualifying match in the UEFA Europa League.

Actually Nomads have a highly competitive squad of 18 senior players complemented by two earning first deals after graduating from our Academy.
Perhaps last year we were a bit overcrowded with players. Its always sad to see players go and I am sure all of us send our thanks to those moving on.
