Ryan Giggs’ ‘kind of player’ eyed up by Championship clubs
Manchester United and Wales youngster Dylan Levitt is ready for first team minutes and is likely to take a step down to do so.
According to reports from Manchester Evening News, Levitt is among six youngsters who could be loaned out by the Red Devils this summer. Several Championship clubs are rumoured to be interested in the Welshman.
The 19-year-old, who hails from Bodwelwyddan, made his first-team debut in United’s 2-1 defeat to Astana in November of last year. Despite the disappointing loss, Levitt impressed as his composure on the ball and maturity beyond his years allowed him to complete 100 passes in difficult conditions in Kazakhstan.
Prior to making his debut, he was called up to the Wales senior-squad to face Croatia and Hungary after being involved in a training camp in Portugal a few weeks before the vital double-header last June.
The midfielder was also brought in to replace Aaron Ramsey for Wales’ games against Azerbaijan and Belarus last September.
Ryan Giggs, the Wales manager and former United player, praised Levitt in a recent interview with MUTV.
”In training, he’s one of the best,” claimed Giggs. ”He’s my kind of player – a good character, quiet but tough, and he’s one that I’ll be taking a big look at over the next year or so.”
With Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s midfield options looking relatively strong, Levitt may benefit from gaining first-team experience on loan away from Old Trafford next season. Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Scott McTominay and Andreas Pereira all occupy similar positions to the youngster, who was been at United’s academy since the age of eight.
International friendlies against USA and Austria, which were due to take place in March, may have been Levitt’s opportunity to debut for his country before the matches were eventually cancelled due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
Giggs believes that he may be one of the Welsh players to benefit from the European Championships being postponed until 2021 .
”If he plays more games, then he’ll definitely be in the reckoning. He’s a really intelligent player with a good range of passing and he stands out in training in every session,” he said.
One club who could benefit from a loan move for Levitt is Swansea City. Already reportedly interested in a loan move for Manchester United midfielder James Garner, Swansea, a club who have an array of young talent, could look to add the Welshman in order to bolster their midfield options for next season.
