Newport County boss Michael Flynn has been installed as the favourite to become the next Bristol City manager after Lee Johnson was sacked following defeat to Cardiff City on Saturday.

The 39-year-old, who has previously played for Barry Town United and Undy Athletic, is currently at a price of 4/5 with SkyBet.

Flynn has earned many plaudits for the work he has done at Rodney Parade, which included guiding the Exiles to a dramatic great escape on the final day of the 2016-17 League Two season.

Since then, he has overseen impressive runs in the FA Cup, with County beating the likes of Leicester City and Middlesbrough to earn a lucrative home tie with Manchester City, as well as securing a 1-1 draw with last season’s Champions League finalists Tottenham Hotspur in January 2018.

The club also reached the League Two play-off final last season, narrowly losing out in extra time to Tranmere Rovers.

Flynn is joined in the running for the vacant managerial role at Ashton Gate by ex-Newcastle United and Brighton and Hove Albion boss Chris Hughton, who is currently at 6/4 with SkyBet.

Other managers on the list include Steven Gerrard (6/1), Mick McCarthy (12/1) and Slavisa Jokanovic (16/1).

Former Wales managers Chris Coleman (20/1) and Mark Hughes (25/1) are in the running, with Welshman Tony Pulis available at the same price as Hughes – however he has distanced himself from the job.

Nigel Adkins, the former Bangor City manager, whose most recent job was at Hull City, is an outside shot to take over from Johnson at 33/1.
