After biding his time on the sidelines, Bristol City prospect Sam Pearson was awarded his Championship debut earlier this month.

Following his inauguration to senior football, it appears the 19-year old made an instant impression after coming on as a 37th-minute substitute.

Here is what Bristol City supporters made of Pearson’s debut.

“It’s been a long time coming, I’ve been waiting for it for a while” the fledgling midfielder told Robins TV.

“I’ve got on unexpectedly in the first half but I’m buzzing to have made my debut. I was on the bench at 17, now I’ve been on this long run and got my opportunity, so I want to thank the Gaffer for putting his trust in me. I’m just buzzing!

“Simmo (assistant manager Paul Simpson) said go for a jog which I did, then he called me to get ready. I was shocked, it was unexpected!

“You just have to get up to speed but I think I did. I grew into it, got more touches, got past my man. Obviously, it’s hard when you’re 2-0 down but I think I did well.”

The academy graduate also revealed the encouraging praise given by Head Coach Nigel Pearson, who was still thoroughly impressed with Pearson despite the result.

He added: “He said to me ‘well done on a decent debut for such a young lad’. I think it’s good to get my debut under such an experienced manager. He’s a great man, he knows a lot about football, and I want to thank him because this means the world to me”.

And in the past, Pearson had dug his feet in whilst enjoying loan spells in the National League South and the National League respectively with Bath City and Weymouth.

Along with this, the Cardiff-born teenager has represented Wales at various youth levels, ascending from the U17 squad to Paul Bodin’s U21 side.

A testament to the esteemed regard in which he is held in, Pearson has made Bristol’s matchday squad on fourteen occasions this term and for a while, there had been a profound hankering for the youngster to be licensed with an opportunity for the first team.

Technically gifted and confident with the ball at his feet, Pearson is capable of playing in a variety of positions ranging from centre midfield to the left-wing.

And with Bristol City’s renowned expertise of blooding young talent through, it seems there is plenty more to come from Pearson.

Over the years, the likes of Joe Bryan, Bobby Decordova-Reid and Lloyd Kelly have all worked their way up through the Severnside ranks to become valuable first team members and eventually play Premier League football.

Evidently, Pearson is in good hands at the Championship side.
