West Brom are reportedly interested in Newport County defender Priestley Farquharson.

The 24-year-old only joined the Exiles in the January transfer window from the Connah’s Quay Nomads for an undisclosed fee.

Farquharson has played ten times for Newport since his move and has kept three clean sheets so far under the stewardship of Michael Flynn.

Reports from Football Insider however say that the Baggies sent scouts to watch Farquharson in Newport’s 3-1 victory over Morecambe on Saturday.

A move to the West Midlands would signal a rapid rise through the divisions given that Farquharson’s footballing background is mainly from a non-professional background.

He began his career at Hitchin Town, before spells at Billericay Town, Bishop’s Stortford, and Hayes & Yeading United.

The central-defender then moved to Connah’s Quay where he spent two years. During his time a Deeside Stadium, he claimed a Cymru Premier title win as well as the Nathaniel MG Cup.

He also featured in their Champions League and Europa League qualifying campaigns, captaining them in their narrow defeat to Dinamo Tbilisi.

The England beach international had been on trial to Belgian pro League outfit K.V. Oostende in the summer but a move failed to materialise.

Farquharson instead signed a new contract and made 15 league appearances before departing for Rodney Parade.

If these new reports are to be believed, then Farquharson could find himself either in the English top-flight or at least the second tier.

West Brom are currently involved in a relegation battle as they look to preserve their Premier League status.

They are managed by Sam Allardyce, who Football Insider understands would leave The Hawthorns, should they fail to stay up.
