Haverfordwest County swoop for Bala Town’s Henry Jones

Haverfordwest County have announced the signing of playmaker Henry Jones, following his departure from Bala Town.

Jones becomes the Bluebird’s second addition of the summer after they completed a deal last week to sign right-back Dylan Rees from Cardiff Met.

The 27-year-old last week announced he was leaving Maes Tegid following three seasons at the club, including two campaigns where they qualified twice for European football.

The attacking midfielder made 27 appearances for the Lakesiders this season, scoring twice, as well as featuring on two occasions in the Europa League.

Prior to his move to Bala, Jones began his career at Swansea City before joining Bangor City for a first year in senior football after leaving the Swans’ academy.

In his first season in Wales, he claimed the Cymru Premier’s Young Player of the Year award, which attracted attention from Vanarama National League outfit AFC Fylde, of whom he played for a season.

After his return to the Welsh top flight, he was named in the Team of the Season and earned a Wales C call-up, featuring in the 2-2 draw with England C at the Peninsula Stadium in March 2020.

He went viral in 2018 after he set up then-teammate Steven Tames with a rabona across which attracted mainstream attention.

“There’s a big project going on here and I’m delighted that Rob and Wolvesy identified me as someone to come in,” said Jones after making the move to West Wales.

Commenting on his latest recruit, manager Wayne Jones added: “This is a very big coup for Haverfordwest.

“Being able to bring a player of Henry’s ability and flair to the club shows our ambition and the supporters will enjoy him playing.

“He has plenty of experience and has won honours at this level, so we’re delighted to get him in.”

Club chairman Rob Edwards added: “A real class act. I cannot wait to see him in blue.”
