Cardiff Met 1-5 Flint Town United: Five-star Flint inflict heavy defeat on transitional Archers

Flint Town United got their season underway after a dominant 5-1 win over Cardiff Met at Cyncoed Campus on the first match day of the new season.

In front of the Archers fans along with a few of Flint fans who made it to the ground saw a six-goal thriller at Cyncoed Campus. 

Jack Kenny kicking off the scoring with an effort that went into the bottom corner past lang to give the lead for the hosts early on. 

A second goal for the Silkmen was struck on the hour mark when Callum Bratley fired in from close range past Lang. 

The third coming from one of the biggest coupes in the league with Michael Wilde opening his account with an effort at the back post. 

Michael Wilde fired home his second a few minutes after his first as his effort was gifted by Harwood who gave him an easy chance that he slotted home from close range. 

To finish off the scoring for Flint, Sam Hart headered home past Alex Lang to grab the fifth goal. 

Thomas Price grabbed a consolation with the goal of the game with an effort from distance that was impossible for Rushton to deal with.  

In the first stages of the game, Flint started off with the opportunities as Bratley had his sliced volley go past the post. 

After a failed effort from Callum Bratley, he delivered a through ball to Jack Kenny as he drove into the box firing his effort into the bottom left corner past Alex Lang. 

Met responded with a chance from Craig Davies as a ball passed to the outside of the box as Davies’s effort did not threaten the keeper. 

Cardiff met were attacking down the right flank from Davies after the Flint opener with no real danger for Rushton. 

Flint attacked down their right side with a delivery from Danny Harrison towards Michael Wilde as he did not get a solid connection. 

Adam Roscrow  managed to get a shot from a Craig Davies pass that was blocked but Thomas Price had his curling effort cleared off the line.  

Roscrow received a yellow card following an argument between the referee after being fouled. 

The first chance of the second half went to the Silkmen as a corner was it in with Emlyn Lewis nearly converting into his own net, as he cleared the ball off the line. 

Jack Kenny received a yellow following a foul on Kyle Mccarthy with him retaliating as he squared up to Mccarthy resulting in a yellow. 

Thomas Price received a yellow moments later, as he slipped into the back of Callum Bratley.  

From the free kick the ball landed to Callum Bratley as he turned himself around and fired a shot into the bottom right corner from close range. 

After the second, Neil Gibson’s men nearly grabbed a third after Michael Wilde shrugged off Joe Evans as he fired his shot just past the post. 

Conor Harwood hit a spectacular overhead kick that went just past the post as Alex Lang was left standing following the attempt. 

The Cardiff Met defence was crumbling apart and a third for Flint town soon followed as a corner which was not cleared away landed to Michael Wilde at the back post to slot home. 

Cardiff Met replied with an attacking opportunity of their own as Adam Roscrow dashed down the right side as he fired his effort at Jonathan Rushton for the first real danger for the keeper. 

Alex Jones was booked following a trip on a Cardiff Met player as they were on a counterattack. 

A counterattack followed for Flint Town as Conor Harwood found Michael Wilde across the box as the new arrival grabbed his second goal with an open goal into the roof of the net. 

Sam Hart received a yellow as Thomas Price was handled when attempting a delivery into the box. 

It was not over for Cardiff Met as Ben Maher flicked the ball up in the air in the direction of Hart as his backwards header went past Alex Lang from close range. 

Stoppage time of three minutes went onto the board as Thomas Price was left free by the Flint defence as he fired a powerful strike from outside the box into the top right corner. 

Thomas Price got Cardiff Met a consolation, but it was not enough as a dominated second half from Neil Gibson’s men being the vital blow for Christian Edwards’s side.
