Bala Town have completed their fifth signing of the summer in the form of striker George Newell.

Newell has committed to the Lakesiders for the upcoming season and bolsters their front line after the departure of Will Evans to Newport County.

The 25-year-old was on trial for them and scored twice in their friendly win over Denbigh Town on Tuesday evening as they continue their preparations for the 2022/23 Cymru Premier season.

Newell’s career saw him come through the academy ranks of Everton before getting his start in the professional game with Bolton Wanderers.

He mainly played Under-21 football but made two senior appearances for the Trotters and replaced Emile Heskey for his Championship debut.

A two-year spell with Scottish Premiership side Motherwell followed but he was limited to just 11 games, scoring one goal.

Since then he has found success in the non-league and was with Southport from 2019, scoring seven goals in 17 appearances. Most of his time was spent away Haig Avenue however with two loan spells at Northern Premier League outfit Marine.

Stephen Killen, a North West football journalist claimed that Marine had been keen to re-sign him and had worked hard in doing so but it is Bala who have won the race.

Newell is the son of Mike Newell, who played up front for Blackburn Rovers, winning the Premier League title in 1995, as well as featuring for Everton, Luton Town, and Leicester City.

Colin Caton has already recruited Newtown duo James Davies and Naim Arsan, as well as Luke Wall from Widnes and Ross White from AFC Telford United.

All four players were part of the recent UEFA Europa Conference League campaign which saw them lose on penalties to League of Ireland outfit Sligo Rovers.
