We’re live from Cardiff Met host Penybont at Cyncoed Campus in the second part of their double-header this festive period. The Archers claimed first ground in their ‘local derby’ as they beat them 3-1 at the SDM Glass Stadium, with no complaints from Rhys Griffiths.

Matt Chubb opened the scoring in the first half then later Kane Owen equalised on the hour-mark but their celebrations were short-lived. Sam Jones netted almost immediately after Owen’s response and rather than a reply from Bont, Met assured themselves of victory with a strike from Harry Owen after an error from goalkeeper Kelland Absalom.

Met are going strong this season and have all but assured themselves a spot in the top six with three games to play. They are third in the league, a point ahead of Bala Town, who have a game in hand. Seventh-placed Haverfordwest County cannot catch them but Caernarfon Town could with their games in hand. Ryan Jenkins’ side have a double-header against Airbus UK, with victory not guaranteed, but with no wins this season, look unlikely to falter in Phase One.

As for Penybont, they have Haverfordwest five points behind them but it is Caernarfon that they must keep an eye out for. The Cofi’s are six points behind them but like them have two games in hand. After playing Met, Rhys Griffiths’ side will play Airbus in a rearranged fixture, as well as rivals Caernarfon, and Aberystwyth Town, with three of their four fixtures away at home.

For form, Bont are winless in their last four matches and have four of their last ten matches, tasting defeat also four times, with two draws. Met meanwhile are unbeaten in six matches, winning five of them, with their only blemish a 1-1 draw away at Flint Town United. In a ten-game stretch, they have won six games and suffered three defeats.
