Cymru Leagues: A geographical look at the teams competing in the 2023/24 season

The 2023/24 Cymru Leagues line-up has all but been confirmed following the Ardal Leagues play-offs.

Play-off weekend saw Baglan Dragons and Bangor 1876 promoted to the second tier. The Dragons were the first team to secure their place after beating Risca United 2-0. Jordan Evans scored a brace to get Carl Clement’s side up.

Not even 24 hours later, the Citizens secured their place after beating Cefn Albion 4-2 after extra time. Goals came from Liam Morris, Corrig McGonigle, and Tom Clarke as the Phoenix side pick up from where the now-defunct Bangor City left off.

As for league champions, it was The New Saints who secured a second consecutive title, finishing a whole 22 points ahead of Connah’s Quay. Airbus UK were relegated with the lowest points tally in the history of the league, and Flint Town joined them in the Cymru North.

Colwyn Bay would replace them after securing the title in their penultimate fixture after an incredible battle with Holywell Town. The Seagulls had always been confirmed as a top-tier place because of the Wellmen not applying for a Licence, but Steve Evans’ side wanted to win the league.

Barry Town went up from the South, with Lee Kendall picking up from Gavin Chesterfield, who departed the club in the winter. It was one of two trophies after winning the Welsh Blood Service League Cup.

With no South team relegated from the Cymru Premier, it has not yet been confirmed but assumed that Llanidloes Town will make the move across the North and into the South. Joining them in the second tier as champions are Caerau Ely who beat Garden Village 5-1 in their must-win final fixture at Cwrt-yr-Ala Road.

As for teams relegated from the second tier, in the North we saw Penrhyncoch, Conwy Borough and Holyhead Hotspur go down. Penrhyncoch are expected to be placed in the Ardal North East, whilst Conwy and Holyhead should go in the West. The Ardal South West are set to get three teams all from the Cymru South with Ynyshir Albions, Swansea University and Trefelin BGC all going down.
