Barry Town claimed just their second league win of the season as they beat Pontypridd United 2-0 at Jenner Park in the Cymru Premier.

Goals from Harrison Bright and Kayne Mclaggon helped Barry to win their third game on the bounce against a below-par Pontypridd side in a feisty game.

The home side have now won three on the bounce in all competitions. On the other hand, the visitors have won only once in their last six league games, and have been brought into the relegation race.

It was clear that the game was going to be a feisty one in the fifth minute. Keenan Patten slid in late on Kieran Lewis, failing to win the ball. Referee Huw Jones brandished a yellow card for the Barry midfielder.

Just a minute later Barry looked like they had found the opening goal. Kayne Mclaggon was played through on goal after six minutes. He smashed a long-range effort smashing against the underside of the bar. It looked to everyone like the ball crossed the line, however, the referee did not give it, and play continued.

Less than ten minutes later, Barry found the opener. Rhys Davies played a lovely through ball to Hulbert. The striker played the ball across the goal. It fell to Harrison Bright who made no mistake putting it in the back of the net.

The feisty affair began to live up to his name. Jack Karadagon was fouled on halfway which caused outrage from the away players. Three yellow cards were shown to Kayne Mclaggon, Callum Sainty, and Jarrad Wright.

It would be the latter, Wright, at fault for Barry’s second. The ball was crossed by Rhys Davies from a corner and struck Wright on the arm. The referee showed no hesitation in pointing to the spot. Mclaggon’s spot-kick was saved by Ratcliffe, but he made no mistake with the rebound.

Chances continued to fall to the home side. This included an acrobatic effort from Ollie Hulbert which was just over the bar. Pontypridd were unable to conjure any serious chances of their own allowing Barry to comfortably control the game.

The final Barry chance of the half came on the stroke of half-time. The Ponty defenders mix up a ball over the top and it reaches Ollie Hulbert and heads it to his strike partner McLaggon whose volley is only just over the bar.

The first chance of the second chance came just five minutes in. Rhys Davies played a sublime ball once again across goal. Jamie Veale was on the end of it just six yards out. However, the midfielder connected with it poorly, and his shot went wide.

The second half showed very few chances. Despite this, the best chance fell to Barry’s number nine. The ball was fired to Mcglaggon before the striker span Wright with ease. He then unleashed a ferocious shot which crashed off the post.

After eight minutes of added time, the referee called an end to the match. Barry with a dominant display against Pontypridd.
