Wales continued their journey towards the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a dominant 3-0 home win against minnows Liechtenstein at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Joe Rodon opened the scoring for Craig Bellamy’s side with a well-taken header under pressure, his first goal in a Welsh shirt in 53 appearances.

The lead was doubled in the 65th minute when Harry Wilson headed home from a pinpoint Jay DaSilva cross, effectively sealing the three points.

Kieffer Moore tapped home a third, with the nation now sitting top of Group J ahead of Monday’s trip to Belgium, who were held to a 1-1 draw away to North Macedonia.

Wales player ratings v Liechenstein

Karl Darlow – 6

A quiet night for Wales’ number one, who had little to do as Liechtenstein spent the majority of the match camped in their own half.

Connor Roberts – 6

Roberts played his part in containing a toothless visiting attack but offered little going forward, as the home side dominated possession.

Ben Davies (C) – 7

The skipper led his side to another three points and a clean sheet, edging closer to his 100th cap for the nation, a player destined to be remembered as one of the greats.

Joe Rodon – 9

A well-taken header under pressure opened the scoring for Wales five minutes before the break, easing the tension that had been building inside the stadium. A solid display, just what The Red Wall has come to expect from the Leeds United man who got his first goal in a Wales shirt

Neco Williams – 5

Williams was on the field for only the opening 20 minutes before suffering an injury. He appeared to be in considerable discomfort on the sideline and was taken off on a stretcher, making him likely to miss the crucial clash with Belgium on Monday.

Ethan Ampadu – 6

It was great to see the Leeds United captain back in a red shirt after missing recent camps through a long-term injury. He played a key role in helping the side maintain possession, consistently recycling the ball to support attacking moves.

Liam Cullen – 6

Delivered a superb pass that split the opposition defence to set up the third goal, but had limited impact otherwise, with most of the attacking play concentrated out wide.

Brennan Johnson – 6

The Europa League hero delivered some dangerous crosses throughout, but couldn’t quite provide the cutting edge. He did, however, force a strong save from Benjamin Büchel in the first half.

Harry Wilson – 7

Despite a well taken header to double the lead it was an unusually quiet night from Wilson who has become the shining light in the squad since the arrival of Bellamy.

Sorba Thomas – 7

The main threat for the home side during the opening 64 minutes, causing constant problems for the opposition down the left flank. His pinpoint corner delivery set up the opening goal.

Kieffer Moore of Wales in action. Wales v Turkey in the UEFA Nations League at Cardiff City Stadium on the 6th September 2024.

Kieffer Moore – 7

Moore had several chances to find the net on the night, and it seemed luck wasn’t on his side, until the ball eventually fell kindly for him to tap home Wales’ third. He passed up a great opportunity in the first half, opting to head the ball down for a teammate instead of going for goal himself, a chance he may, in hindsight, wish he had taken.

Jay DaSilva – 7

An early substitute following the injury to Williams. A pinpoint delivery to find Wilson for the second goal all but confirming the three points.

David Brooks – 6

A second half substitute who showed moments of how talented he can be with a ball at his feet. He was unfortunate not to get on the scoresheet with some chances to add to the tally.

Josh Sheehan – 5

Introduced in the second half, but struggled to make a major impact with the game already all but sealed for Bellamy’s side.

Lewis Koumas – 6

The youngster showed confidence and a willingness to get on the ball after coming on in the second half.

Jordan James – 5

Introduced in the second half, but struggled to make a major impact with the game already all but sealed for Bellamy’s side.
