National League South side Torquay United have completed the signing of a highly rated youngster from the Cymru Premier.

It has been a summer of significant movement for some of Welsh football’s brightest talents. Barry Town United have seen Ieuan Owen, Ollie Hulbert and Ben Margetson depart for Kilmarnock, Weston-super-Mare and Merthyr Town respectively.

Briton Ferry Llansawel have also attracted interest in several members of their talented young squad. Among them is Ollie Anderson, who has been linked with Wolves. The Reds have previously seen players move on to Swansea City, with some later returning to the club, but have had to accept losing one of their stars.

Now, Briton Ferry have lost another promising prospect to the English football pyramid. Kian Jenkins has joined Torquay United, who compete in the National League South, the sixth tier of English football.

The young defender has signed a two-year contract with the Gulls as he takes the next step in his career.

National League South move for former Swansea City starlet

Jenkins arrived at Old Road in the summer of 2024 following his departure from Swansea City.

Torquay are acquiring a player who was a key figure for Briton Ferry Llansawel last season. The defender who can operate as a midfielder made 34 appearances in all competitions, contributing four goals and five assists as the Reds narrowly missed out on a Cymru Premier European Play-Off place.

His impressive performances earned recognition from both managers and supporters, with Jenkins nominated for the league’s Young Player of the Season award.

He leaves Briton Ferry having registered seven goals and six assists in 63 appearances for the club.

Jenkins has also represented Wales at Under-16 level on four occasions and previously featured alongside Cardiff City forward Cian Ashford in the national team setup.

“I’m really pleased with the signing of Kian,” said manager Jimmy Ball.

“He’s got a lot of potential, he plays up the left hand side, multiple positions, good top end of the pitch, good delivery, good goal scoring record as a full-back, and really good defensively in one-v-ones.

“He’s aggressive, tenacious and a really good ball player. I’m really pleased to bring Kian in and strengthen our defensive unit.”

Briton Ferry’s transfer business

Briton Ferry’s transfer activity has largely involved players moving between clubs within the Cymru Leagues.

The first arrival at Old Road was Luke Bowen, who joined from league rivals Trefelin after playing a key role in their Cymru South title-winning campaign. Matt Chubb also arrived from Cardiff Met, while Joe Lloyd and Tristan Jenkins completed a double move from Llanelli Town.

Lloyd joins Ferry after making 29 league appearances for Llanelli Town during the 2025/26 season, scoring once in a 1-1 draw with Cardiff Met. He was also part of the Llanelli squad that won the Cymru South title and secured promotion to the Cymru Premier in 2024/25.

Jenkins arrives following a season in which he was a regular for Llanelli Town despite the club’s difficult return to the top flight, which ended with them finishing bottom of the Cymru Premier. The midfielder made 31 league appearances, scoring once and registering five assists.

As for departures, Kris Evans, Dan Jefferies and Jonathan Evans have returned to their former clubs, joining Llantwit Major, Penybont and Aberystwyth Town respectively.
