Hughes leaves Rhyl for Down Under

Rhyl’s Rob Hughes has left the club to move to Australia, it was announced today.

Hughes gauged interest with strong performances as a Prestatyn Town player in the 2013/14 season. In the following summer he joined Rhyl, where he became a fan favourite for his skill and pace on the ball.

He intends to continue playing in Australia, with a club as yet unannounced.

Hughes’ departure is part of a busy transfer window at Rhyl, with the loan signing of Bangor City legend Sion Edwards also announced.

The club’s official statement also confirms Bangor loanee Ashley Young will leave the club due to work commitments.

“Rob Hughes has been a loyal servant to the club over the last three years and all at the club wish him all the best for his adventures in Australia where he intends to resume playing.

“Also confirmed as a departure is Ashley Young. He signed on loan until the end of December from Bangor City. With his academy commitments at Crewe Alexandra unfortunately his appearances would be restricted in the second phase of the season and it has been agreed not to renew his loan.”
