Cardiff City Women player Danielle Green has announced her retirement from football.

After spending 13 years as a player since joining the Bluebirds in 2012, Green is calling time on her career. The wing-back made one senior appearance in the 2024/25 season, featuring against Penclawdd in the Bute Energy Welsh Cup.

She played an influential role in the development of the younger players at Cardiff, and also appeared for the under-19s team last term.

“I just want to thank the club and all of the staff involved in the women’s team for giving me this opportunity over the years to play for this club,” the 30-year-old said.

“To the fans, I want to thank them for their ongoing support, every week, every single season.

“To the players, I just want to thank each and every one of you, past and present, for the support and for helping me be a better player on the pitch. I’ve met friends for life.

“Finally, I want to thank my family for supporting me in those wet, windy and cold conditions.”

Eliza Collie, who recently made the move to FAWNL Southern Premier Division side Gwalia United, thanked Green for the role she played in her development.

“Been an absolute pleasure to share the pitch with you,” said Collie in a post on social media.

“Thank you for helping me through the good and bad times of football—an absolute legend on and off the pitch.

“Wish you nothing but the best, Dan. Truly, I can’t thank you enough for what you’ve done for me over the years. Endless love for you, Greeny.”

West Brom snap up Cardiff forward

The departure of forward Molly Kehoe from Leckwith Stadium was also announced on Wednesday. She will link up with former Cardiff teammates Seren Watkins and Rhianne Oakley at West Brom, who play in the FAWNL.

Kehoe departs after two seasons with Cardiff, registering 17 goals and 18 assists. Last term, she contributed to five goals in their defence of the Genero Adran Premier title, and also played a part in seven of their goals on their way to winning the Welsh Cup.

“I’m really excited to start a new adventure in a new place,” Kehoe said to West Brom’s official club website.

“It really helps coming in and knowing some of my teammates already in Seren [Watkins] and Rhianne [Oakley].”

“I’ve played with them before now at Cardiff, and I’m sure they’ll help me settle in straight away here at the Albion.

“I’m excited to show the manager and the fans what I can do this season and in the future. I hope that I can bring my creativity and score some goals to help us achieve our aims for the year ahead.”

Cardiff are preparing for their 2025/26 UEFA Women’s Champions League campaign. They face SSE Airtricity League Women’s Premier Division outfit Athlone Town next Wednesday (July 30).

They have so far signed Helen Evans from league rivals The New Saints and Maddison Perrott from Gwalia United.
