Fancy an away day without taking the car? Here’s how far you’ll have to walk from the nearest railway station to every Cymru Premier ground this season – and there are some huge differences.
For football supporters, there is something rather satisfying about stepping off a train in a Welsh town, grabbing a pie and a pint, and making your way towards the floodlights.
But while some Cymru Premier grounds are practically on the doorstep of a railway station, others require a lengthy trek – and in one case, supporters face a journey of several miles before they even reach the ground.
With the 2026/27 Cymru Premier campaign now under way, we’ve looked at all 16 clubs to see how close each home ground is to the nearest railway station, using Transport for Wales services as the basis for the rail network.
And there is a clear winner.

Flint Town United and Connah’s Quay Nomads – 0.4 miles
Ground: Cae-y-Castell, Flint
Station: Flint
Talk about making life easy for the travelling supporter.
Flint Town United’s Cae-y-Castell is just 0.4 miles from Flint railway station, with the club itself describing it as a roughly five-minute walk.
And that means Connah’s Quay Nomads get the same result this season.
The Nomads are playing their home matches at Cae-y-Castell in Flint during 2026/27, meaning both clubs effectively have the same answer when it comes to the railway rankings.
It is about as straightforward as an away day gets: train to Flint, walk for five minutes, and you are there.
Briton Ferry Llansawel – around 0.3 miles
Ground: Old Road
Station: Briton Ferry
Briton Ferry Llansawel are another club with a serious claim to having one of the most train-friendly grounds in the league.
The club’s own supporters’ guide says Briton Ferry railway station is a five-minute walk from the stadium. The ground’s postcode also puts the station only around 0.3km away.
Llandudno – around half a mile
Ground: Maesdu Park
Station: Llandudno
Llandudno may be one of the league’s more northerly destinations, but its supporters get a pretty easy ride once they arrive in town.
Maesdu Park is roughly half a mile from Llandudno railway station, with ground guides putting the walk at around 10 minutes.
That makes it one of the best combinations in the league for a day out – train into a seaside resort and a short walk to the football.
Barry Town United – around 0.7 miles
Ground: Jenner Park
Station: Barry Docks/Cadoxton
Barry has a slightly unusual situation because there are several stations within reach.
Barry Docks and Cadoxton are both around a mile or less from Jenner Park, with Cadoxton traditionally regarded as the closest. Football Ground Guide describes Cadoxton as just under a mile away, while postcode data puts Barry Docks at around 1.1km.
Barry Town’s own ground information also points out that Jenner Park is only a short taxi ride from Barry, Barry Docks or Cadoxton stations. So this is another ground where travelling by rail is perfectly realistic.
Ammanford – around 0.6 – 0.7 miles
Ground: Recreation Ground
Station: Ammanford
Ammanford is another of the new additions to the Cymru Premier where the railway is genuinely useful.
The club’s own directions explain the route from Ammanford station to the Recreation Ground, while Cardiff City described the stadium as an 11-minute walk from Ammanford railway station.
Older ground information puts the journey at around 10 minutes, making it one of the more accessible grounds in the division.
Cambrian United – about one mile
Ground: M&P Group 3G
Station: Tonypandy
Cambrian United’s historic first season in the Cymru Premier comes with a rather handy railway option.
The M&P Group 3G in Clydach Vale is around one mile from Tonypandy railway station, although the actual walking route takes longer than the headline distance might suggest.
Cardiff City has previously described the stadium as a 29-minute walk from Tonypandy station, while map data places the station approximately one mile away.
Haverfordwest County – around 0.8 – 0.9 miles
Ground: Bridge Meadow
Station: Haverfordwest
For one of the league’s most westerly clubs, Haverfordwest County actually scores pretty well in the railway rankings.
The club says Haverfordwest railway station is a 14-minute walk from Bridge Meadow, while postcode data places the stadium around 0.8km from the station.
That makes Bridge Meadow a surprisingly straightforward train-and-walk away day.
Cardiff Met – around 1.2 miles
Ground: Cyncoed Campus
Station: Heath High Level/Low Level
Cardiff Met’s Cyncoed Campus is served by two stations: Heath High Level and Heath Low Level.
Cardiff Metropolitan University itself says both stations are approximately a 25-minute walk from the Cyncoed campus.
It’s therefore not quite a case of stepping off the train and immediately seeing the floodlights – but it is still a perfectly manageable walk.
Trefelin – 1.4 miles
Ground: Ynys Park
Station: Port Talbot Parkway
Trefelin are one of the league’s newcomers and have perhaps the clearest directions of the lot.
The club says Port Talbot Parkway is approximately 1.4 miles from Ynys Park, with the walk taking around 30 minutes.
There is also a taxi rank outside the station, with the drive taking roughly four minutes.
So if you’ve got your scarf, programme and half a dozen other things to carry, a taxi may be the preferred option.
Colwyn Bay – around 1.5 – 1.7 miles
Ground: Llanelian Road
Station: Colwyn Bay
Colwyn Bay’s Llanelian Road ground is a little further from the railway than you might expect given the club’s name.
Current postcode data places Colwyn Bay station between roughly 1.6km and 2.7km from different points along Llanelian Road, with the stadium itself towards the upper end of that range.
In practical terms, you’re looking at around a mile and a half or so of walking.
The New Saints – around 1.9 miles
Ground: Park Hall
Station: Gobowen
The New Saints are an unusual entry because Park Hall is in Oswestry, just across the border in England.
The nearest operational railway station is Gobowen, rather than Oswestry itself.
Park Hall is roughly three kilometres from Gobowen – around 1.9 miles – making this another ground where a taxi or bus could be more appealing than walking, particularly in poor weather.
It is worth remembering that the railway line does not currently take you into Oswestry itself.
Penybont – just under two miles
Ground: Bryntirion Park
Station: Bridgend
Penybont’s Bryntirion Park is another ground where rail travel is possible, but you will need to put some miles into the legs.
Football Ground Guide puts Bridgend railway station at just under two miles from the stadium and warns that much of the walk is uphill.
So perhaps leave the post-match pint until you’ve completed the climb.
Airbus UK Broughton – 2.7 miles
Ground: The Airfield
Station: Hawarden
Airbus UK Broughton have one of the more awkward rail journeys in the Cymru Premier.
The Airfield’s nearest station is Hawarden, approximately 2.7 miles away. That figure is given by multiple football ground guides.
There is a bus option from Chester, and the ground is also close to Broughton Shopping Park, but this is definitely one where the car has an advantage.
Holywell Town – around five miles
Ground: Halkyn Road
Station: Flint
There is no railway station in Holywell, with Flint being the nearest mainline station at roughly five miles away. Holywell Town’s own ground information confirms Flint as the nearest station and says supporters can use bus and taxi connections from there.
That makes a train trip to Holywell rather different from the likes of Flint, Briton Ferry or Llandudno. It is possible – but you probably won’t fancy walking the whole way.
Caernarfon Town – around nine miles
Ground: The Oval
Station: Bangor
The Canaries are comfortably bottom of the railway table, with Bangor railway station around nine miles from The Oval.
Ground guides confirm Bangor as the nearest railway station, with supporters then expected to continue their journey by bus into Caernarfon.
The good news is that the bus journey is considerably more sensible than attempting the nine-mile walk.
For travelling supporters, therefore, Caernarfon is the ultimate example of a Cymru Premier away day where the train is only the first part of the journey.
So, which clubs are the real train-friendly champions?
If you’re planning to do the Cymru Premier by public transport, Flint Town United and Connah’s Quay Nomads are the clear winners, with Cae-y-Castell just five minutes from Flint station.
Briton Ferry Llansawel, Llandudno, Barry Town United and Ammanford are also particularly attractive options for supporters who don’t want to drive.
At the other end of the scale, Holywell Town and Caernarfon Town are the big challenges, although both have bus and taxi options to bridge the gap.
And there is one other interesting quirk: The New Saints play in Oswestry, meaning a Cymru Premier away day can actually take you across the English border.
So if you’re putting together the ultimate Welsh football rail tour this season, there is certainly a route to be planned.
