Bangor City have strengthened their defence with the signing of former Wrexham defender Max Purvis following his summer departure from the club.

The Citizens have been active in the transfer market this week, first securing the signature of Blaine Hudson before reuniting with Guto Williams.

Michael Johnston’s side are preparing for life back in the Cymru North and have added a blend of youth and experience as they look to compete at a higher level following last season’s treble-winning campaign.

Purvis joins the club at Nantporth after his contract with the Red Dragons expired this summer.

Departing Wrexham defender heads to Bangor

The 19-year-old was one of nine players released by Wrexham at the end of the season and has quickly found a new club.

A Liverpool native, Purvis spent the second half of last season on loan at Flint Town United after joining the Silkmen in January. He went on to make six appearances, including a substitute appearance in the Welsh Cup final as Flint Town United were beaten 3-0 by Caernarfon Town.

Andy Cannon, Jay Rodriguez, Callum Edwards, Reuben Egan, Tom Kelly, Daymeon Almeida, Casey Bedford and Umar Nawaz were the other players released by Wrexham this summer.

One of those departures, Casey Bedford, has already secured a move to the Cymru Premier after joining newly promoted Holywell Town ahead of the new season.

Guto Williams heads back to Nantporth

Guto Williams has returned to Bangor City after rejoining the club from Holywell Town.

The 26-year-old previously represented Bangor during the 2017/18 season, making 14 appearances in a campaign that saw the club finish second before being relegated due to licensing issues.

Williams returns to Nantporth with considerably more experience, having enjoyed spells in the Cymru Premier with Cardiff Met, as well as stints with Holywell Town, Llandudno and Colwyn Bay.

It was with Colwyn Bay that he enjoyed his greatest success, helping the club win the Cymru North title in 2023. With 80 appearances at this level and a championship medal to his name, Williams brings proven quality and experience to Michael Johnston’s squad, adding to what is already shaping up to be an impressive summer of recruitment for Bangor City.
