Cardiff City youngster Harri Davies has joined Cymru Premier newcomers Cambrian United on loan as he looks to gain valuable senior experience away from the Bluebirds.

The centre-back has made the switch after spending the current campaign with Cardiff’s Under-18s side, having continued his development through the club’s academy system.

Davies was an unused substitute for Cambrian United in their 3-3 draw against Barry Town United on November 6, with the defender now looking to earn his opportunity in the Welsh top flight.

The move represents an important step in the youngster’s development, with the opportunity to experience senior football and test himself against established players in the Cymru Premier.

Davies has been involved in Cardiff City’s defensive ranks since joining the club at Under-14 level, having previously been part of Pontardawe Town’s academy.

He became a scholar at Cardiff City for the 2025/26 season and is now into the second year of his scholarship with the Bluebirds.

The defender has progressed through the age groups in the Welsh capital and was an important member of the Under-17s side that reached the Professional Development League (PDL) Trophy final during the 2024/25 campaign.

A centre-back by trade, Davies has continued to feature for Cardiff’s Under-18s this season, with his most recent appearance coming on October 31 in a 3-0 defeat against Queens Park Rangers.

Defender explains why he made the move to the Cymru Premier

Speaking to Rhondda Radio, Davies expressed his excitement at joining Cambrian United and explained how the move would provide an opportunity to gain valuable experience.

He said: “It’s a pleasure to be here, and I’m looking forward to it.

“It’s to gain a bit of experience. It’s a real big opportunity.

“The Cymru Premier is a really good league with some really good players. Cambrian are a really good side. I’m looking forward to getting out on the pitch with the boys.”

The teenager will now be hoping to make an impression at his new club and take advantage of the opportunity to gain experience in senior football.

Cambrian swoop for defender ater Jay Woodford injury

Davies’ arrival also comes following a significant injury setback for Cambrian, with defender Jay Woodford suffering MCL and PCL knee ligament injuries.

The 26-year-old had been an ever-present for the Rhondda outfit in the league this season, featuring in all 13 of their Cymru Premier fixtures before picking up the injury. He has also made more than 130 appearances for the club since joining in 2021.

Cambrian confirmed the extent of Woodford’s injuries on November 2, describing the news as a “huge setback” and sending their support to the defender.

The addition of Davies could therefore provide further defensive depth for Liam Williams’ side as they look to cope with Woodford’s absence during the coming weeks.

Cambrian United prepare for Bangor City clash after Barry Town draw

Davies joins a Cambrian United side currently sitting ninth in the Cymru Premier table, with the club experiencing their first season in the Welsh top flight.

They currently sit five points clear of the relegation zone but have endured a difficult run of league form in recent weeks.

Their draw against Barry Town United brought an end to a sequence of four consecutive league defeats, although they remain without a league victory in their last five matches.

Cambrian will be hoping to build on that point when they return to action on November 15, when they host Bangor City in a Welsh Cup fixture set to be shown on Sgorio.

The match will provide Davies with another opportunity to become involved with his new team as he looks to make the most of his loan spell and continue his development away from Cardiff City.
